Depends on what you are connecting.
Could be HDMI, Component, fiber optic audio, digital coax, RCA audio, etc.

They're not.
Try shopping here (or similar).

If your receiver has HDMI audio and video abilities, just hook all the HDMI cables to the receiver and then one HDMI out of the receiver to your tv.

If you receiver doesn't do HDMI switching, hook component or HDMI cables directly into your tv for video. Hook optical or digital coax into your receiver for audio.

And use monoprice as suggested above, don't buy your cables in the regular stores they are a total rip off.

Another recommendation for monoprice. I've used them a few times. Excellent product and exceptional customer service.
