Gear:
Samsung LNT-5265f
Sony HT-SS2000 HTIB
Sci Atl 4250HDC STB

So i have the 4250 hooked up to the sony reciever via HDMI, Originally the audio didnt work until i went to settings->devices->digital audio output[HDMI]. The other options are [Other] & [Dolby Digital]. Using either of those produce no sound output. My problem is that using the HDMI setting, the reciever only shows Sw, L, R channels being used and displays 'PCM 48khz'. Shouldnt the reciever recognize the Dolby Digital output from the STB?

Any help is appreciated.

Have you checked the settings in the Scientific Atlanta box? If so and they are correct, try connecting the audio from the cable box to your HTIB using optical digital audio.

I checked the settings that seemed appropriate. Namely the Digital Audio Output setting. I also tested using coax digital audio (i dont have an optical handy) and that also worked. The problem is that the Sony HT-SS2000 wont accept audio from anything other than hdmi when using hdmi connections. So the only work around ive figured out is hdmi->TV and coax digital audio->reciever. The problem with that setup, is it adds alot of input switching when changing from ps3 to STB. I dont see why the stb wouldnt output DD through the hdmi.

It is possible a handshake issue, or incompatible HDMI specs (ie 1.1 vs. 1.3). So connecting the HDMI directly to the TV and the digital audio to the receiver would be the best way to go. Many cable providers will not support the HDMI connection because of issues just as yours.

The section titled:Connecting to an HDTV with an HDMI connector

"3. Press MOVE RIGHT to select Dolby Digital. This setting will send Dolby Digital audio to the HDMI, DIGITAL AUDIO OUT, and OPTICAL AUDIO OUT connectors on the set-top."

So from what sci atl says, selecting dd will send it through the hdmi. Ive done that, and with that setting enabled, neither my tv nor my reciever will pick up any audio, obviously the reciever is Dolby Digital compatable, what gives??
