Time Warner won't support HDMI connection

I called the Time Warner tech support line the other day about an unrelated issue and while discussing my new HD connection the tech informed me that Time Warner will not support an HDMI connected box - you must connect your box with component cables. Does this sound right? And if so, what's up with that?

Sounds right for many cable systems. HDMI is so flaky that many STB to HDTV combinations don't work reliably due to the HDCP handshaking, so many cable systems just don't support HDMI.

Rbinck - Cox Communcations does support HDMI -- I am glad they do already invested the money into HDMI cables..

It seems as though it's about half and half. Some will have the HDMI port enabled, but won't support it if your HDTV does not work with it. They will just tell you to use component cables.
