I've been looking at the Panasonic LCD and have a read a few customer reviews saying that the lamp is buring out very quickly for them. A few said they needed to replace the lamp one or more times in the first year at a cost of $300 a pop. One guy said he had to repalce the lamp ballast at a cost of $1000. I'd like to get a nice TV, but don't want have to spend several hundred dollars a year in maintenance costs. Is the experience these reviewers related typical for LCD TV's in general or the panasonic specifically?

thx for your replies

Typical life for these bulbs is about 8000 hours... bulb costs $200 - 250. Make sure to only turn off these sets with the TV's (or remote's) power button... don't use a powerstrip to turn it on/off because it won't allow the set to run the fan for a cool down cycle & majorly shorten bulb life. This is common across many RPTVs.
