Channel numbers vs. names.

My brother and I are having a disagreement. I thought maybe an informal survey of people on the internet might help settle it. He says most people think of channel numbers. I think of the names of channels. I had D* and they changed all the numbers twice. Then I got Comcast and the numbers changed again. They seem very arbitrary to me. My favorite channels are Starz HD, Cinemax HD, HBO HD, and Showtime HD. That is how I would refer to them. I can remember a few channels. But there are too many for me to keep track of all of them. I have in mind a range of numbers and use the tv guide. So tell me, how do you think of the channels you watch? Would you tell a friend that you watched a movie on 549? Or would you say you watched a movie on HBO? I would like to know. Maybe I really am in the minority.

I go with names and call letters. easier to talk to people on other services that way.

Forget Channel Numbers if your talking to "Customer Service". At Time Warner they hardly know the channel names much less the channel numbers...It takes them enough time just to figure out
what TW system your calling from much less figure out your channel numbers..

Names. The numbers vary by area and provider. But SHO is SHO regardless of provider.I lived in a sub burb in Ohio and the channel numbers varied from the neighboring city which had TW also. But me and my friends could and can relate by the names.

As a lifelong OTA viewer I use channel numbers rather than call signs.
