In-laws just bought 32" Sharp HD Aquos. Used HMDI cable to connect to Motorola3612 HD box. HD channels come in crystal clear, but the standard def channels look horrible. They look worse than a normal cable on a normal TV set. When I plugged the coaxil cable straight into the TV, the standard channels looked pretty good. Am i missing some step in the setup process. Help please.....

I believe this is a common practice many use to get the SD channels to look better.

Personally, I never watch SD channels anymore. With over 30 HD channels, I can always find plenty to watch.

I live in Fort Wayne IN and I have the same problem.....I called them out and they said it was the tv which i didnt believe, but i called a tv repair man anyway and he said there was not a problem so I called comcast back and they acknowleged the problem but couldnt do anything about it and he said that he was gonna get an engineer to come out cause he said that he has seen the problem before. I know itsd not the LCD panel like the previous blogger said because i used to have a good picture up until a couple weeks ago. It started when they brought out more HD channels which tells me that its a bandwith issue......However u have bloggers on here that will say that that the fiber optic cable has enough bandwith and it does. The problem is at the local comcast hub. they dont have the right equipment yet to handle all the bandwith and that is why some markets have more HD channels then others some markets have the equipment and others dont.

Did some more research and one blogger said that the Motorola STB's aren't as good as other brands when it comes to Standard Definiton Picture Quality.

Help please.....Have you tried using component cables vs. HDMI? This works for many.

BTW I would be hard pressed to blame the motorola box. I have a motorola stb, use component connections, and my SD is nearly dvd quality.

Mine usually look fine, too. I have the Moto 3416 DVR and I use Monster HDMI (the $125 one). I have the box set to stretch to 16x9 and have the standard def set to 480p. Yeah, it isn't as good as HD, but I have no issues watching SD programs. I have a 46" Samsung LCD. I am on a 750Mhz system here in Harrisburg.

Of course...95% of what I watch is in HD. We get FX in HD, and that will go up to 99%.
