Hi gang..
To anybody...is the HD2 chip better than the HD3??

I bought the HD50LPW42 from costco 2-1/2 months ago ....now they are carrying the 50LPW52 for $2100.

I paid $2000 for the 42 model.

The 42 is in silver &(silver stand)...52 is black....
If I exchange it...I gain the HD3 chip--cable card slot--HDMI connection..

What I lose is the web-browsing(even though there is an ethernet connection in back)--But an RCA tech told me it is only for their use..

I now have all silver home theater equipment...SO the black is throwing me off!!!

I just got rid of an ALL BLACK system and big screen!!!!!

Neither HD2 or HD3 should be your chip of choice. HD3 uses one mirror for every two pixels while HD2 uses one mirror for each pixel. But HD2 does not have the contrast ratio that HD2+ has, any DLP TV purchased with either HD2 or HD3 is already a generation behind HD2+ and will be way behind when xHD3 comes on the market later this year. You should get great deals on DLPs with the older chips! Optima RH65 w/ HD2 chip has dropped in price to about $3400.

The XHD3 is the new consumer 1080p chip. It is awesome. It has plenty of contrast and brightness.

HD2 is a fine Chip !!!Both HD2 & HD2+ have 12Degrees of tilt.HD2+ has the dimple fix and lands and posts tinted a bit darker as to be less reflective of stray light.

So, in order of performance the rank of TI's HD chips is as follows:

1. XHD3
2. HD2+
3. HD2
4. HD3
5. HD1

I hope that clarifies things.
