Any reccomendations for my HT stuff. I assume the M---ter brand is as overpriced as the cables they sell.

How many joules protection do I need for 5 plugs (HDTV/HD DVD/ DISH Satelite /Onyko receiver/external HD?

I use a battery backup instead of a surge protector. That way the battery and device get the hit and not the equipment. UPS also sell for much less than a "good" surge protector and I have had many surge protectors with lots and lots of joules and my equipment still took a hit. And yes anything with the Monster name is just way overpriced.

I'm looking at these now. Belkin seems to have a couple of units from $150-200. Would these do the trick?

Absolutely. There are many brands on the market Belkin, APC, IBM just to name a few. And also unlike a surge protector the UPS units act as a power conditioner so you have the best of both worlds with only one piece of equipment.

I use two of Belkin and they work great with all the epuipment I use! I also use 6 Woods brand. UPS devices the problem with those is the battery is very expensive to replace and it harms the environment to dispose of..

I have had my APC units for 5 years ant they both required battery replacement last year. APC covered the cost except for shipping.
