Panasonic CT-30WX54, need some help

I'm looking at buying this tv for my room. My main question is, does this TV attempt to convert NON-HD signals to a higher quality? My main reason for buying this is a.) movies, and b.) a specific video game that focuses on strict timing. A friend of mine had a Toshiba that tried to convert the signal and it ended up causing the game to lose frames. Another friend has a Samsung and when he uses component inputs, it affects the timing.

If this tv does do the up-converting, is there a display that does not? Any help is appreciated.

I currently have a 27" sony wega and I want a TV that just displays the image as-is.

Most HDTVs upconvert SDTV nowadays... the way to work around the timing issue is to use the native resolution of the display... 1080i here... since it's video format conversion that is messing up your timing. Better displays for gaming are those that support 720p in hardware, like LCD or DLP...

well the game isn't HD by nature, it's a regular interlaced picture.....so I guess 480i?

Well, in that case what you're really looking for is an old SDTV...

Perhaps a better solution is to get the HD cableset for your Gamebox & some HD games!

that would allow me to play HD games in 720p et cetera?

Depends on what Gamebox you've got... don't ask ME the details, I'm not a gamer. Somebody with personal experience here?
