upgrading receiver with hd dvd.....

Need some help if ya can

im gettin a hd dvd player
my receiver is a lil old.......Yamaha htr 5230
no hdmi inputs or components

has optical & coaxial connect

im going to connect hd dvd to Tv with hdmi

then ill have to connect my hd dvr from directv to tv thru component cables......or get an hdmi switch

now if i buy a new receiver with hdmi, can i connect tv or directv thru it? with hdmi & or optical cable?

any features i should look for or avoid?

been awhile since i got a new receiver, but i think its time

just wanna buy a good enough one but not overpay

any help in recommendations or other connection advice on my new setup....is greatly appreciated

If you get a receiver like the Onkyo TX-SR605 you could connect both your HD DVD player and DVR to it via HDMI then connect just one HDMI to your TV. That would give you all the available video and audio options. You can pick up that receiver for around $400.
