Comcast HDMI? and Bravia Surround Sound?

I recently purchased a Sony Bravia and was told at the store that I needed a surround sound because the sound on the Bravia was not very good--wrong. I've had the system for over 30 days and it was out of the box--not installed, but out of the box, so I cannot returen it.

I was also told that I needed HDMI cables. Well I bought 2 one for the cable to TV connection and one for the surround sound to TV.

I originally hooked up the component cable and it worked okay. But tonight I hooked up the HDMI and could not get sound or a picture. When I called Comcast, they said that the component cables are what they recommend and that the HDMI may not work.

Does anyone have any information on either of these concerns?

Thank you.

I also have a sony bravia. I run mine with my regular cable(co-ax) into my surround sound and co-ax into my bravia(I havn't upgraded to hidef for regular tv. I don't see much of the point). I also run componant video from my surround sound set(for dvd) into my bravia. I run an HDMI cable from my PS3 to my bravia for gaming and blueray. I have another cable (optical audio) running from the tv to the surround sound (this is optional, the sound from the tv is still really good) I have had no problems with any of this. If you are having problems, check your connections and if they are right. then something might be wrong.

Edit: When upgrading my PS3 to the HDMI cable I had to "enable" the new configuration for the system to "output" my new selection. I have never used your cable box. But maybe a reset to allow the system to detect the cables?

I was told that samething with COX works with Comcast when it comes to the boxes they use. But I was able to get the HDMI to work on DCT 6412 and new DCT 6416. There seem to be a short or something wrong with the HDMI on these boxes so Comcast might be disabling HDMI until the problem get's solved. If you touch the HDMI you get a mild electric shock on the DCT 6412, as the tech got when he was here. That was coming from the defective DCT 6412 so they replaced it with a brand new DCT 6416. Problem wasn't there.

Comcast might just want you to use Component as Cox wanted me too, but I told them I wanted to use the HDMI which I do today. Only one set uses Component because it doesn't have HDMI on the DCT 6200 HDTV Signal tuner. I just got off the phone today with them for another DCT 6416 with DVR $9.00 bucks more for that a month.
