Wireless Headphones?

Confused

Anyone have a suggestion on Wireless Headphones?

I'm looking at the ones that have Surround Sound, but I'm not sure they are worth the extra $...

What's better IF or RF?

Thanks for your help :)

I got a pair of Sennheiser RS-120 a few months ago, and its been working flawlessly so far. Sound is very good... bass is deep and tight... surprisingly very very good for a wireless headset. Tech has come a long way for wireless headsets. :) It all depends on how far you want to walk from the base. I use it in my office and home and go about 30 ft away from the base without any problems. Its got some very good reviews overall when I was doing my homework on it.

Check it out. You can get it online for about $60. You'll be very happy with the sound. Have fun. ;)

IF = infrared frequency, only operates line-of-sight with the transmitter.
RF = radio frequency, operates thru walls

There are two distinct kinds of surround headphones... some that try to create virtual 3D with one or two speakers per ear, and ones that have 3 or more speakers per ear... it's my opinion that the real speakers will work better than the virtual effect. Here's some I'm drooling over, but they won't be out for 6 weeks...

Thanks for the responses.

After looking into these things, I'm finding that there really aren't a whole lot of choices...

6 weeks you say... :(

Maybe I'll wait...

I like the RF models for their range and convenience, so what's the advantage to the IF (seeing as that we are using them with our HDTV)?

IF signals do not suffer audio signal decay due to conversion of radio signal. If you are using them solely for TV then a top of the line set of IF headphones will be far better than RF headphones.

90% of the market is based around RF headphones, as they are of more use to the bulk of consumers.

I'd think IR would suffer similar processing delays when the signal is converted to light & back... I'd always thought IR's popularity had more to do with it's low cost.

I used to have an IR keyboard for my HTPC, but have an RF one now... much easier to use, no problems when line-of-sight is interrupted.

I haven't seen much of a price difference between the 2 technologies, wouldn't you think that one would be noticably cheeper than the other...

I will be going with the RF technology since my wife will use them for music around the house...

I find it quite odd that I've only seen 3 different models (2 Sony and a Senn) at the 5 places I've gone to look at them, is there anywhere that has a reasonable selection that I could actually go to and checkout? It would be great to be able to physically try them...

Thanks

BTW - I live in the San Francisco Bay Area...

Do an internet search for 'headphone' or 'surround headphones'... there's even a place called headphones.com...

I've done searches on the web, but I was looking to find someplace locally that I could go to and actually try a few different units out...

Regardless of what the writeups have to say, if it doesn't fit YOU, or it isn't comfortable for YOU, then it just isn't going to work in the longrun...

Thanks

Good point... if you're going to wearing them for an extended period of time they'd better be confortable!
