My latest problem with my Scientific Atlanta 8300HD

Just got this dvr about a month ago and when the Time Warner employee installed it he said it must be brand new because it took foreeeeeever to update. When it finally got up and running it worked fine for about two weeks. Then all of the sudden it would turn on and display the channel it was supposed to be on but no picture would display.

Anyway so then I called TW tech support and they reset it from their office and it rebooted, and then it worked fine. Well about a week later it did the same thing so I rebooted it by pushing the + and - buttons simultaneously and pushing info which got it working fine again. Well ever since then I have had this problem about every week and it has caused me to have to reboot every time. :banghead:

Do I have a faulty dvr? Or is there something I can do to correct this. Thanks in advance guys!

It's a software problem. Mine locks up once every week to 10 days.

The software is still a beta release. They were rushed into production for god knows what reason.

Pardon my ignorance but what exactly does that mean? Is there anything I can do to fix it? Do you just reset your box every time it locks up as well? Thanks in advance

Ask for a new box, Cox uses the same model and I have two. Whenever i've had a problem they've just swapped out the box. If they give you crap, just threaten to cancel their service.

I do a hard reboot on my box about once a week. Seems to help. A hard reboot means to turn the box off, unplug it from the back for at least a minute and then plug it back in, wait until the time shows again (about 5 minutes) and you are good to go.

Johnny, I've just encountered a similar problem with my Scientific Atlanta 8300HD. We've had this unit for about 1 year, with service from Time Warner Cable. It has worked well over that time, with only occassionally requiring a reboot, which generally fixed any problem.

But today, we have the problem that 3 channels suddenly won't play, and only show a grey TV screen. (All other channels are fine). On those channels you see see the normal DVR control bar on bottom, but no content. Also DVR status bar doesn't advance, just sits there. We have another TV on same cable w/o cable top box, and it picks up all channels. So the problem must be in DVR. We have re-booted 3 times with same result. Have called TWC, who said they didn't have a fix, so they've scheduled to come swap out the box next week.

i just had the time warner guy out for the same problem, he said all the sci atl 8300 boxes suck. the only reason they sent them to market is because the previous boxes were easy to hack and get free channels. he said he feels they are about 2 years away from being fully operational.

I feel your pain. I had four of these over a year until I bit the bullet & paid 465.xx after rebate on a Series3 TiVo HD. I wish I had done it a year ago.
