I have a toshiba 57h81 ...

... that is 7 years old, and was wondering if anyone else has experience with using this type of older CRT TV with an HD-DVD or BD player? Can the TV show display these formats in good hi-def resolution or is it just too out of date?

Thanks, and sorry for the newbie-type question.

You can watch HD DVDs in 1080i but you will not be able use the upconvert capabilities because that requires HDMI.

as i don't watch DVDs anymore, the upconversion does not bother me.

I have a three year old Toshiba 57H84 that is a similar type TV to yours. I have it hooked up to a Toshiba HDDVD A2 player and it is excellent. My set does have HDMI so I do get to take advantage of the upconversion.

Fellas, i hooked an A2 up to my 57h81 and wow ... very nice picture!

compared to my 62" toshiba DLP 1080p tv, the picture isn't as surface-level crisp, but it has a depth/warmth to it that i find very appealing.
