I'm confused. Is NHL Network up or not? Based on the title of this thread I assumed yes. But based on a couple of the posts it sounds more like there have only been sneak previews at most (like National Geographic HD there for a while). I checked the D* channel lineup on their website and I don't see anything about NHL Network listed in the packages or sports subscriptions. When I turned on channel 215 it gives me the message to call customer service (because I'm not subscribed to it).

Anybody know if/when the channel will be up and if it's part of the D* standard package or if it's part of the Sports Pack? I hope it's part of the regular lineup. Though I'm not a big hockey fan, it's hard for somebody like me to become a hockey fan with such little exposure.

Right now there is a banner on this channel that reads something like...Buffalo @ Panthers as part of NHL sneak peek.

By looking thru the upcoming shows thru the receiver, there is alot of TBA up to the Oct 31 date. Then every time slot is full. Oct 31 is when I heard D* to start carrying the NHL Network.

So I guess we can watch the Sabres-Panthers tonight and wait for Oct 31.

Ditto for me too. I have CenterIce along with Total Choice Plus and HD and no Channel 215 on the guide this morning. I do see it, however, on the DTV website channel listing.

The listing was there for me but at game time the channel said channel not purchased.

Thumbs down to D* and the NHL on this one! I don't have the Plus package (since most of those channels don't interest me) or the NHL Center Ice subscription. I'm a very, very casual NHL fan at best. Perhaps a little more exposure to the sport would make me more interested. But no. Instead of NHL Network going out to all D* subscribers, a lot of us will miss out. No wonder hockey is no longer one of the "big four" sports, and it won't be if they don't provide more exposure.

Um, yes. But I also read post #8...

•Available with Total Choice Plus/Choice Extra and above, or an NHL Center Ice subscription.

And I also got the error message that I'm not subscribed to that channel when they were running the preview.

Like I said, I really wouldn't even call myself a hockey fan. But it would give me something to flip to between football seasons. Baseball? Isn't that finally over?? :yippee:

Nothing is really over once a sport launches its own network.

It's only an extra $5 a month for Xtra. I actually think it's worth it, you get some pretty good channels like National Geographic, Fox Movies, ESPN Classic, Versus and Discovery Health. I subscribe to the package myself. Besides, you would gain Versus and get more exposure to hockey. If you're really interested in maybe checking that stuff out then you should change, you can always change back if you don't like Xtra. Unless of course you're just complaining for the sake of complaining and you have no intention of ever tuning in to NHL Network.

Gee do you make these sort of snide comments to everybody or am I just that special? I used to have the Plus package, and downgraded since I found myself never watching those channels. I already get National Geographic, ESPN Classic, and Versus. I guess I was "grandfathered in" since they used to be part of the base package. Fox Movies would be nice, but not nice enough for $5. And I WOULD watch the NHL Network, but again I'm not paying $5/month for it. I don't know what your intentions are on this thread, but I do know mine - plain and simple... the NHL does a poor job marketing their sport and this is just another example of it. If they don't want me to see their channel, if D* doesn't want me to see the channel, if YOU don't want me to see the channel then so be it. The NFL, NASCAR, College Football, and College Basketball will continue to earn my time, money, and interest.

The 24/7 MLB channels is supposed to be launch by the beginning of the 2009 season and be a Direct and XM exclusive channel.

I really like watching the old Penguin/Lemieux stuff on the channel, but for being the official channel, they need some serious work...quick! I watched Mario's top ten goals the other day. They had commentary on 3 of them. They showed 7 goals without saying one single word about them. I'm thinking, WTF? Then they ended the program with Mario's best goal. The clip was the Canada cup or whatever and the clip was about 3 seconds long. Then they spent the last 5 minutes of the show showing Gretz hold the cup with Messier behind him...all with no commentary. Then the credits rolled. I'm going to watch the 91 Finals tonight so we'll see how this goes.
