Has anyone been successful in getting sound on a Sharp D64U (mine is LC-42D64U) to come in on HDMI and go out on Optical?

I can't seem to make this work and it is annoying me. I want sound HDMI in, out Optical. It should work, TV has HDMI inputs and opti out.

Right now I am having to go Component Vid because of the sound issue. But I dont like it.

Any help is appreciated.

Some optical outputs on TV's are just to output audio for the digital ATSC/QAM tuners. This may be your case. I would check the owners manual or call Sharp to verify..

Thats correct. The digital audio out on TVs is not a pass-thru for the HDMI signal. It is meant only as audio out for the digital OTA signal.

Thanks for the clarification. So, is what you are saying that there is no way to have HDMI video and audio input, and use the audio from the HDMI for digital audio?

So how do I get HDMI input and 5.1/7.1 sound when using the HDMI Input 5/6 on the D64U?

Manual is unclear.

By the way, this worked beautifully on the Toshiba 42HL167 that I had to return because of green push. (HDMI in, digital audio out)

Thanks

You can mute the sound on your TV and use a digital connection between your STB and audio amp. This works for me.

Yes, you can just HDMI out to the TV and optical/digital coax out to your SS receiver. That way you can use either your TV speakers, SS speakers or both. That is what I do and don't have to have the SS system on all the time.

It must be my ss then. No sound when Dish>HDMI>TV>Opt out. Sound when Dish>Component>TV>Opt out. I also tried taking sound in Optical straight from the 622 to my ss, no sound. However, when goint through component first on the tv, then opt out, opt to my ss works fine. And, HDMI to opt out on the Tosh worked fine with this ss. I really dont know.

It may be the receiver, but perhaps not. Check in the audio menu of you 622 and whatever else you are connecting. See if ther is a setting to enable optical audio and or disable HDMI audio.
