PS 3 backwards compatability

After reading the wiki on the PS3 I was curious as to how different the two versions of BC are. The 20 and 60 gig have hardware BC, the 40 has no BC and the 80 has software BC. Can anyone juxtapose the HW and SW BC. When I go to get a PS3 I'm more inclined to get the larger 80gig version but if the BC is crappy I'll go for the 60 so I can remove one of my consoles from my lineup.

I see there being more opportunity for the software to be better since sony can release updates that will upscale or improve certain aspects of the games but with as much as theyre trying to drive people into buying PS3 games I'm not sure how they'll play that out.

Get the 60gb. You've got 99.9% BW compatability. Let's face it, there aren't really any PS3 games worth playing yet. Besides, I'm still catching up on PS2 stuff I missed over the last year while playing FFXII and KH2.

The only benefit of the 80 is the HardDrive size and the pack in game. Frankly, the pack in game isn't worth it to me, and you can update the HDD yourself if you want a bigger one.

The 80 gigger comes with Motorstorm right?

I rented the game a while back and it definitely does not warrant the purchase of a 80 gigger PS3. I'd go try and eBay a 60 gigger for the strong BC and cheap prices, I got mine off eBay for about $360.

If you like rally racing games like Motorstorm just get DiRT. It is waaay better.

I tried Motorstorm a while ago and the thing that turned me off of it was that it felt way too slow paced. But then again, it's not really like there are any other 4x4 monster truck racing games out there at this time either. It makes me wish Microsoft would bring back their Monster Truck Madness series.

I'm sticking to my 60GB PS3 because I still have some pretty good PS2 games that I have to catch up to like FF XII and Okami, but also cause I also have a couple of classic PS1 and PS2 games that once in a while are worth playing like Street Fighter Alpha 3.

That does not mean I won't play PS3 games, but it is easier than having all my consoles next to the TV gathering dust and worst, to have money staggered there when I can have all on one simple device.

Don't you agree?

Doesn't the BC version of the PS3 upscale PS2 games? I would think this would be a very popular feature and not sure why they would take it out.

On the 360 Elite with HDMI Halo 1 and 2 looks outstanding (for a last gen. game title) W/O BC I would have several Xbox games to trade in for close to nothing or just collecting dust in my closet.

Doubt I would ever buy a PS3 but if I did I would definetly opt for the bigger HD and BC compatibility.
