As far as 720p/768p goes vs 1080p..... What will be your normal viewing distance. If it will be 10 ft or more I would say the difference would be minimal with a 42''. And all HD broadcasts/channels are either 720p or 1080i (no 1080p stations in the forseable future TMK). So the will be upconverted/deinterlaced anyway, but still very good/better. HD DVD or BD are true 1080p sources. If your going to sit pretty close to the set or do allot of gamming, 1080p would be a good option. And the price gap between the 2 has shrunk quite a bit over the past year or so.

LCD or Plasma.... That would be based on what looks/fits best for you. It will be very hard to find a 1080p Plasma in your price range. I seen the Panny 42PZ77U flotating around for $1500-$1600 or so.

You can find quite a few 1080p LCD's in your range. Westy has a 42'' 1080p LCD onsale at BB for $1099. Great price and has 4 HDMI's. Not a huge fan of Westy, but they are pretty nice. And quite a few people on this forum like them.

Circuit City has a Sharp 42'' 1080p set onsale for $1299:yippee: . I would give it a look as that is a great price on a Sharp..

If you go 768p, the Panny IROC listed is pretty hard to beat......
