Strange remote behavior

When I use the button that turns on both the remote and the TV it works fine. When I use the "off" button to turn them both off the box goes off and the TV stays on. If I push the off button again the TV goes off. Why would it turn both on with one push but not turn them off.

Also the volume control doesn't work well. I have to keep pushing the button and pointing it at different angles to get it to register

Any ideas?

This is a common problem. Many times, the D* remote does not send a strong enough signal to the tv to power off/on. Also, the volume control usually only bumps one level, and will not repeat when you hold down the volume up/down button. Some tv brands have more problems than others. One of my tv's would not power on/off at all with the D* remote, but the volume control would work. I usually have to make sure the remote is pointed directly at the tv to help with the power off/on.

Thanks-seems like the problem is nothing I can control-just an ineffective remote
