This kinda shows that sony's foray into processors was a mistake. Let IBM, Intel, AMD, etc focus on that in the future...

So much for their earlier denial, eh? An anonymous Sony official has "confirmed" to Japan's Nikkei that they will sell their advanced computer chip operations to Toshiba in an effort to re-focus on core business. The official announcement is expected later today. The sale gives Toshiba the manufacturing responsibility for the much hyped Cell processor used in Sony's PS3. Sony, of course, will continue to invest in the Cell chip. Nikkei says the deal is worth some 100 billion (about $858 million) and should be completed by March.

so much for that. wonder what will happen to the next ps console or if sony is even gonna bother. man i hope they do bother because we all know what happens when large companies dont have any comp. to push them harder. i would hate to see ms get lazy and not produce a great console next time around just because it didnt have anyone on their azz.

Not unlike M$, who should really stick to software, cause their hardware is 'poor', at best. ;)

Poor is a bit harsh. Maybe defective is a better word. :D

Say what you want, but developers are churning out a LOT of QUALITY games for the X360. I can't say the same for the PS3 :)

On a more humorous note, Sony sells their cell processor to Toshiba.... There competition in the HD Format War.

I know they are not related to each other, but humorous anyways.

I think to say the 360 is a bad piece of engineering is a bit harsh. The thing is very well engineered. It's just the overheat issue that is the culprit. The components and quaility of build is very very good.

Ahh, on the contrary. Point taken.

I love my 360 despite the occasional grinding it does to my games.
