I have a DTV receiver with no phone line connected to it. On channels 116, 117, 118 there are the various offers for ordering NBA, NHL, etc with the remote. If I order one, it seems like I could get that programming and not pay until I plug the phone line in... seems too good to be true. Tell me what I am missing.

The phone line would only let you order something with the remote. Once you order it, the charges will be applied to your account, whether the phone line is plugged in or not.

You mean other than it sounds like you want to commit theft?!

The STB will try for xx hours to connect and transfer the charges. After a period of unsuccessful attempts, it will lock and tell you that there is some error and it needs to connect to continue service, at which time the charges will go thru and you will be charged.

Why do you want to try to avoid payment and force all other users to have to pay higher fees for your criminal activities?

I don't think he needs someone to preach to him, father, I am sure he knows that stealing is wrong. He was just asking a pretty honest question.

Exactly. I was simply pointing out what seems to be a loophole. I had an issue with low voltage phone lines in a former residence (new construction circa 2003) which would not allow any of my receivers to complete the dial in on an otherwise perfectly working phone line. DTV came out and verified the situation. All that ever happened was the PPV ordering by remote was disabled and that was that. I ordered from online which obviously went straight on to my bill.
