Could someone tell me if this old DirecTV receiver can be used for an external OTA digital tuner, please.. And if so how do I set up the receiver..

I downloaded the manual and read through it but, no mention of OTA.. I also did a Google search without any luck..

Well, my brother-in-law gave me 3 of these receivers so I'm trying to figure out if I can use them for anything as I don't have DirecTV..

Thanks, Brent

I just did a Google search for DSX5500, there is some information there that may be of interest to you.

According to the manual, there is an OTA coax connection on that receiver. You can try hooking it up to an antenna, entering your zipcode, and see if it works. Since there is not an option for "No Dish", it might not work.

Yes, there is some good information on Google but, nothing answered my question...

I didn't know if the antenna input just passed the signal out through the coaxial output to the TV or the receiver actually had a OTA tuner..

I'll try your suggestion..

Thanks again, Brent

Well, that didn't seem to work.. The receiver just kept searching for a satellite signal.. No mention of OTA in the menu..

Should I take the card out and try again..

Probably will not work if you can't get to a system setup menu and tell it not to search for the satellites.

I did get to the system set up menu but, the menu only refered to the dish, LNBF or satellites ect..
