771 error...multi-switch issue?

Things have been wonderful since the launch of the new HD channels. No problems. Last week a tech came out to improve my 103(b) signals and ended up replacing my "sidecar" dish with a "slimline". Suddenly today I developed the dreaded 771 error, not only on HD channels but SD channels as well. I checked the signal strength and was noticing "0"'s on one of the two tuners. After resetting my box I was back in the 80's and 90's on both tuners and, of course, my picture would return. D* asked me to look at the multi-switch, but it appears that I simply have two separate splitters out in my cable box where the 4 cables from the dish converge. There is nothing anywhere that indicates a multi-switch. How do I indentify this thing? Could this be the cause of the 771 errors, and, if so, why is it just popping up now and not back when the new HD launched? Thanks.

I just went through the same problem and it was resolved by removing the splitter and replacing it with a Zinwell switch. Splitters and the new MPEG4 compression format just don't mix.

Also, I had a bad BBC filter on one line so DirecTV replaced both of them.

I don't have the 771 error message anymore.

Thanks. That info will help me when the tech comes out Tuesday.
