CBS, ABC, etc. NY and LA Feeds

I'm having trouble with DTV customer service (wow, what a shock:lol:  ) regarding the NY and LA locals. I am currently getting both the NY and LA feeds of NBC, CBS, ABC, and FOX in standard def. I am receiving the LA feeds in HD as well.

HOWEVER, for some reason the rocket scientist CSRs at DTV will not let me have the NY feeds in HD because I'm not in the central or eastern time zone. They seem to ignore the fact that I'm already getting them in SD and they keep telling me over and over that I'm not eligible for the same channels in HD because of my time zone. WTF is going on here? Do you guys get both feeds in HD? If so, how did you get through the stupidity and carelessness to someone, ANYONE at DTV who actually has a clue? This is pissing me off.:banghead:

I'm afraid you're out of luck. I, too, used to receive the NY HD feeds of the four major networks as well as the SD feeds. However, the U.S. Congress passed something (no, I'm not joking) that required D* to basically draw a line down the middle of the country and give people east of that line the NY HD feeds and those west of it the LA HD feeds. I got a postcard in the mail about 2 years back telling me I was losing one set of HD feeds and that there was nothing D* could do about it. Crazy, I know, because I still get the NY SD channels, but they can't give me the NY HD.

Yep that's just the way it is. Used to if I missed a show here in the east I could catch it later on the west feed. I still can but just not in HD anymore. As stated above there was a change that stopped this. Seems stupid you can get the feed but not in HD. I mean if you can still get the channels then why the hell not in HD?

Does anyone know which side of the east/west HD line Minneapolis (55447) would be on? We're about 15 miles west of the Mississippi. I moved here from the right coast (NJ) a year and a half ago, but D*, who moved our service, messed up the paperwork and only changed the billing address and not the service address.

I've never had it corrected because I get excellent local signals OTA and given the prevalence of severe thunderstorms here, it saves me from a lot of weather blackouts. Best of all, I continue to receive the NYC sports channels I prefer. My NY feeds are therefore HD, but LA is SD only. The reverse would be better, since the locals are in synch with NY and when I need to pick a show up off the west, it's only SD.

I might be willing to fess up to my actual service address, if I'd get HD LA stations. I could then buy the baseball package to keep the NY baseball teams accessible, with the added bonus of watching the Red Sox fail wherever they're playing :-).

I think you're looking at the NY HD feeds there. I remember seeing the postcard D* sent and it looked like they drew a line straight down the middle of the country, but I'd say it more or less went along with the time zone boundaries. Eastern and Central probably get NY, Mountain and Pacific get LA.

Yeah, as soon as Olson went down (again) I switched over to the LSU-Florida game. I knew exactly what was going to happen with our third string, walk-on, freshman in the game at QB.:banghead:

On the bright side we're still in first place in the Pac-10 with a bye week ahead. Maybe we can get Cowan back and stay in the race. Somehow things just don't seem that bad today with SC choking like that.:yippee:

Oh well, it figures. God damn I hate our government. This is just another reason I hate them. They are completely stupid and they are the most powerful people in the world. That scares the shit out of me. There is a bridge in my town that you have to use to go to the lake. When you are heading North over the bridge, the speed limit is 25. When you are heading South over the same bridge, the limit is 35. I live near the NM/Texas border and the speed limit in NM is 75 on the interstate. When you enter Texas is drops to 70. This would be okay if they would place the first speed limit sign near the border instead of 7 MILES DOWN THE ROAD!!! And what is worse is that Texas state pigs sit there and write tickets before motorists ever get to that first sign.:banghead: Oh well, I guess SD will have to do for the NY locals.

I live in Phoenix and when I questioned D* they said because I get my local CBS etc I can't by law receive the LA or NY feeds. Is that true?

Hopefully there's an exit visa in your future so you won't have to put up with living in America much longer. It will definitely keep your blood preasure down and keep you living longer.

I think that might be right. I remember a conversation with a D* CSR a while back when I was told never to drop the west coast feeds unless I wanted to lose them forever. My best understanding is that the old customers are grandfathered, either legally or by quiet internal D* policy to avoid infuriating their oldest best customers.

The original concept, way back in the 90's, when we watched satellite TV by candlelight and bandwidth was very limited, carrying locals was impossible for D*, so they gave NY and LA locals to everyone who fibbed and said they didn't have a strong enough signal to receive locals OTA. By the time the locals protested and tried to take it away from us, D* had launched enough birds to cover locals in the top markets. Locals had a vested interest in making sure you were forced to watch the silly local used car dealers' pitches, instead of just that joker in the cowboy hat and the circus animals in LA.

I guess I had that coming. I know that things are very good for US citizens but things are not perfect by any means. If you think so then you have been under a rock all your life. My blood pressure is just fine, btw. I just wish that US citizens wouldn't roll over and let the government have their way with them. Oh well, I guess that happens when most of them depend on the government for their income. I wonder what our founding fathers would think of their country now?
