Installer is insistent I need a new dish

I have a D* installer here who is insistent that I need a new dish. Seems I have a "side car" but need the "slimline". As far as I know the "side car" is supposed to work just fine as far as receiving all the new HD channels. I've been receiving them fine for the last two days; the service call was simply to realign the exisiting dish because my 103(b) transponder numbers were too low. Does anybody know if this "slimline" dish has any advantages or disadvantages over the "side car". I might as well let him give me a new dish to there is really no difference, right?

Doing a quick search on DBS talk, they said it will work. Don't rely on my post alone. I know as much as you about this.

Well, everything seems to be working just fine, and my 103(b) transponders went from the 40's into the 70's. Doesn't look like they screwed up the other satellites, either. This guy told me they were told to replace the "side car" with the "slimline" whenever they came across it, but we kind of had a language barrier going on so I'm not sure I fully understood him.

Lots of these dishes are being swapped out. Its only being changed at the descretion of the Service technician. There are no replacment parts for these. In turn its easier to just change it. It has been found that the plug-ins aren't working well and the 119 or 110 LNB is failing.
As long as you have the Protection Plan Insurance its free of charge.

the dishes do the same thing, no difference. but if you get a bad dish then it'll have to be swapped
