I just spoke with Sony and the tech explained that the new RPTV's will not seem as bright as the older models specifically my KDF-42WE655. The tech explained that was a result of the new software and to increase black levels. I'm not saying the TV has a bad picture it just doesn't seem to have the same pop as my older set. I did purchase the Avia disc from e-bay and will calibrate. Anyone else have this new Sony set as I'm curious to know if I'm the only who has this opinion on the is new Sony product. I'm trying to decide whether or not to return the TV.

Assuming your new set doesn't have a problem, just going from a 42" to a 55" screen can result in an observable reduction in "pop," depending on the sets and how critical the viewer is.

In addition to other responses you may get here, you may want to google your set looking for owner's forums and see if others are posting similar complaints about this new model, especially if the Sony tech actually knew what he or she was talking about and gave you accurate info about changes to the A3000's.

Good luck with your new set.
