Need help with DVI splitter

This is my issue, I need to split one dvi port from the back of my computer into a DVI for my monitor and HDMI for my HDTV. I found a splitter that can do this but i don't understand how the resolutions are going to work. From my computer i am outputting 1600x1200 (native monitor resolution), but the HDTV that i want to split the connection to only supports 1360x768. Will the tv scale the signal down from 1600x1200 to its native 1360x768 or do i need to buy a unit that does this?

Without a dual head card your going to have to pick a common resolution. Can you post a link to the splitter your found.... You should really be using a switch rather than a splitter, but then it's one or the other not both.

If you want to use both at the same time at diffrent resolutions I would really look into getting a dual head card.

A splitter, if available, would have to be an active device, and most likely somewhat expensive.

A switch, on the other hand, will be much less expensive. Monoprice would be a good place to start.

I can't post a link to the splitter cause i don't have 5 post but its a $20 splitter i found on sewelldirect dot com. Also, my video card (nvidia 8800gtx) has two dvi outs, for both monitors and an HDCP out. Could i use the HDCP out instead of splitting one of the dvis?

Yea, I saw that item. You can always buy it and if it doesn't work, send it back (will only cost you postage both ways). But perhaps worth a try before buying the real splitter for $269.95 if that is what you will need.

So you are trying to hook up two monitors and a TV?

You might be able to work it by installing a secondary video card. You could get an inexpensive PCI video card with DVI out to drive the TV at a different resolution, if you've got the case/mobo space.
