Samsung HL-S5679W DLP HDTV

this is my first hdtv. i got it for about a week now. whenever i'm watching tv, i noticed a few things happening:

1) the screen flickers, like part of the picture is not clear: this happens about once a minute

2) screen freezes up: maybe about once or twice a day

3) screen flickers then turn pitch black then return back to picture: about once every 10 minutes

are all these things normal for a hdtv???
if not, what can i do to prevent it?
maybe i set my contrast or brightness too high??

any answer would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. :)

The issue is partially from the HDMI ports. Make sure all units you are sending a HD singal to your tv are HDCP compliant. There could be some handshaking issues with your tv. When I owned a JVC I had intermentent problems like you have with yours when my RCA HD-DVD couldnt properly handshake through a HDMI switcher. Not being able to handshake and establish a connection can cause your type of problem. Just giving you a heads up also the HDMI port on the tv might be experiencing a HDMI error and might need to be looked into. Not to scare you or anything just coming from experience.
