Is Madden '08 for PS3 that bad?

I bought a PS3 a couple of months ago mainly for the Blu-Ray player. I still don't have any games but I am a big football fan. Madden '08 was going to be my first. Does the 30fps make this game suck? Is it really choppy, frustrating and not worth playing?

Thanks!

This game is way better on the ps3 in terms of graphics, and gameplay. Unfortunately that isn't saying much at all. Coming from the PS2 controls, you will need to learn different button combos than you're used to using for the last 6-7 years. After each play, the cut scene for some reason gets blurry, no where near as sharp as in other years. I haven't tried an online game yet. One thing that also bugs me is that I can not substitue players during the game. If you really like NFL football I would recommend this game.

The 360 version actually is the graphically superior version. And by a landslide as well.

its not even close (lol). the only real complaints i have about the 360 version are small nagging type of things. the commentary is the worst part but its the same on both systems.

honestly im glad i didnt go pick up the ps3 version on impulse after searching the net for user reviews. i just cant believe the gap where seeing here. man i got a huge list of games im looking into over the next few months and most of multiplatform. kinda makes want to go straight for the 360 version without looking into the ps3 version at all.

If you read his post about having to get used to the new controls, I think he meant to say the 360 version is superior.

Probably a typo

I have no idea what these developers are doing. They're killing the PS3. I just wish more could have more time to learn the skills needed to develop for the PS3. Too bad they have to develop for the 360 first and then transfer it to the PS3. It screws everything up. They have GOT to stop doing that! Sure the 360 is the easy as 1-2-3 but there is a reason for it. Too bad. Madden could be a VERY good game but is only average. Still a very fun game but so far the online play is extremely choppy. My high speed internet is very good and has been extremely reliable but Madden is still freakin' choppy during online play.

360 boys out there...how is the online play? Smooth or Choppy?

I played the PS3 version of madden this weekend at a friend's house. It's really not THAT bad. I think some folks are just blowing it out of proportion or being nit-picky (I know I know, what a new concept around here). I purchased All Pro Football 2k8 instead though (ended up fetching it for 20 dollars net cost thanks to Cygnus). I felt it had a tad bit more detail and I really like the premise of the game. If I had to choose this year I would take 2k's offering for the PS3 over EA's.

The PS3 version online is very, very choppy. I played the PS3 version offline and it is very playable. But online, its terrible. I invited a friend over to play a game offline, and we had a good game. He played a game online and said this is a shame. It's not playable at all. It's too slow and not responsive with the controls.

Mind you, this guy is a 360 owner. Although he doesn't have online connection, he said there wasn't much different between both units gameplay offline. Online is the problem.

I played online against the cpu and there was no laggin. What ever the problem is online, it with the servers not giving a clean peer to peer connection.

I played the 360 version this weekend with a friend of mine online. It was playing pretty good until we both got booted off at the start of the second half. Don't know what happened, but I did read that EA is working on a patch already that will be released soon. So there are issues at this point with online play.

What you just said is an argument for why the 360 is a better machine. Developers can easily make amazing games for it. Whats the incentive for a developer to dump all kinds of time into developing for a system with that high of a learning curve? Especially not now, when there's only a few million PS3s out there. It pays better to do it the other way. And its not the developers who are killing the PS3, it was Sony from the get go. They should have made a more dev friendly console (if that is in fact what the issue with PS3 games is)

360 online play is very smooth.

I don't think I'll pick up any multi-platform titles for my PS3. I just like the achievements and Xbox live - Why settle for second best in those areas when the games should be very similiar.

Do you know if the patches are only for the 360 or for the PS3 as well?

It plays just fine offline, but not as smooth as 360. But online, I've heard EA is having problems with the servers across all platforms.

By reading this article, it seems it will be for PS3, Wii & 360.

Thanks NEX,
The last sentence says, "It'll certainly fix and perhaps even streamline your online Madden NFL 08 experience."

The only way to fix this IS TO streamline. What else are they going to fix? It must be smooth; if it still has lagging then it's not fixed.
:(

On that note, I still like the game, but won't be playing it online until it's as smooth as the in-game experience. THEN this game would be rocking!
..........I'll be waiting................

I've played a few games online w/ the 360, and I can honestly say it's the first game I've ever played online that was pretty much lag free, I mean it plays about exactly the same as offline. I even had a chance to play SOBAY310 this weekend, I'm in PA, he's in Cali, and it played flawlessly. I was very impressed. Especially coming from NCAA football where there was a half a second or more of lag no matter who I played. And If I played someone not on the East Coast it was stuttery and downright frustrating.. I give Online play for madden on 360 a solid A+
