Could someone please explain to me what the difference is between the premium and platinum systems. I'm new to this but I want to buy an xbox360 but not sure whats what. I didn't want the elite because it's a 100.00 more and I'm 1080i but, I just read a post here that the 360 premium was coming out with an hdmi connection which would be great since my other equipment is all hdmi. Is this true and any idea when this may come about.

The current version are core, premium and Elite.

Forget about the core - it has no hard drive, no wireless controllers, no HD cable.

The Premium and the Elite are very close. With the new revision of the premium coming out, the two will differ as follows:

The Premium will have a 20GB hard drive and the Elite a 120GB Hard drive. The Premium is white, the Elite black.

That's it. I personally think the Elite is worth the extra since the hard drive space is nice to have. I haven't ever not been able to download something to my drive, but I have had to manage the space frequently as I download every demo available.

thanks mshulman, the reason I ask about the differences in the two I've been looking on ebay at new systems and they have premium, platinum, elite and core units for sale. The premium and the platinum look like they come bundled with the same stuff and the box looks the same. could they be the same thing? why are they listed seperately ?

I believe it should be mentioned the Elite has the hdmi that the premium does not.

However some evidence has been posted recently here at HD Forum, of a "premium" sku coming with hdmi, but not yet.

...as well as the said differences.

Peace :)

I would have to agree and say spring for the elite. If you are connected and have not had a 360 there will be a boatload of content that you will likely want to download. With its beefier HDD (120gigs) you will come to appreciate the investment and you won't have to worry about having to delete content just to make space for demos that become available in the future. Plus it gives you more room to play with in the event that you want to download movies and TV shows off of marketplace and let me tell you, those things can eat up space really quick. That's just my two cents.

not only movies and tv shows, but maps and extra game content too. consider the gears of war map. both packs combine to over 250 mb, and the halo 2 maps over 500 mb. you can bet bungie will be releasing loads of maps for halo 3, which will most likely be significantly larger in size compared to the maps on halo 2 due to the increase in information of the textures of the maps (unless they use info from the game disc? someone correct me if i'm wrong). get the elite because while it is $100 more than the premium, you get hdmi cable and more than 6 times the hard drive space.

Plus it looks way cooler in black ! LoL !:D

a-ha, which makes me think, this is why they didn't release a HD DVD add-on in black...they're going to include the HD DVD drive in an upcoming sku ?:what: :p

just speculating all, no need to "set me straight" LoL !;)

Peace :)

they actually made some black hd dvd drives for those that worked on it, so obviously a very limited number were made. they also came with a black media remote. i remember hearing a while back that they were not planning on making a black retail hd dvd drive because (according to them) you really only see the gray front of the drive. makes some sense, i would of course rather a black one, but oh well.

on a side note, i think it's strange that the drive looks like a mini 360 when you stand it up on the drive tray side, then when you put it how it should be, it's a mini 360 rotated 90 degrees. i guess the drive itself didn't fit in the housing the other way...

One could always, "paint it black" he he !

I guess those limited black add-ons are like the limited 2006 E3 faceplates. Only the media guru's got them I think ?

Peace :)

First time posting here guys so take it easy on me. I have two links that might be of interest and is ON topic. The first ones tells about the Premium will NOW have a HDMI connection as well, and the second about the $50.00 price drop across all 360 SKUs. Here they are:

http://www.hdtvinfo.eu/news/game-consoles/hdmi-now-standard-on-xbox-360-premium.html

http://www.hdtvinfo.eu/news/game-consoles/xbox-360-price-drop-is-official-now.html

I would have posted it in the HD player sections since that is my main stomping ground, but it didn't seem appropriate.

The only reason to get the Elite over the Premium now is to get a black 360 AND the extra 100GB on the Elite (120GB) vs only 20GB on the premium.

as far as i have read, the premiums do have the hdmi connector, but do NOT come with the hdmi cable.

the elite comes packaged with an hdmi cable, as well as component and composite.

also with the hard drives. a certain amount of space is reserved on them for the backwards compatibility software as well as the formatting. the 20 gb hard drive only has a little under 14gb available. i'm not entirely sure about the 120gb, but i'm gonna guess that it is about 104gb, just to be safe. when you look at these numbers, you get more than just 6x more storage than you would initially guess. 104/14= 7.4 times the storage space.
