samsung DLP TV keeps switching off

08-03-2007, 07:52 AM
I have a samsung DLP 5656 tv which i purchased 1 1/2 yrs ago. Off late i am encountering an issue where the tv simply switches off by itself. A month back it used to happen once or twice a day and these days it has become more frequent like 10 times a day.

Have any of you experienced similar problems? Is this a symptom of needing to replace the bulb? I do not see any degradation in picture quality when the tv is on, so i am not sure if it is the bulb or something else.

can you share your thoughts on this please?

Do the led's on the front on the set do anything prior to the shut down(flash a code ie: like three blinks etc)

not all 3 LED's blink at any given time. I see the bottom and right side led flashing before i hear a beep and the tv switches off.

Honestly, you probably have a short, or a voltage spike of some sort. Pretty much every single big screen out there has a failsafe so that if there is too much voltage coming through any of the components, the television does an auto shutdown. Since it is happening more and more frequently, I would be cautious about trying to use the tv too much before you A.)take a look at the inside yourself to determine if any fuses have blown or if something is overheating, or B.) Get a repair shop tech to look at it. The more frequent shutdown means that the voltage spike or shorts in the circuitry are getting worse and could possibly be damaging more components on the board. I wouldn't keep trying to use it if it's happening 10 times a day. Hope this helped a bit. I am no pro at this stuff, but have seen it a few times at least.

On the lamp door there should be a blue switch (if I remember correctly).
Sometimes the switch becomes loose which would cause the TV to shut on and off at times.

The switch is there so that when you are replacing the lamp the TV cannot turn on (to keep yourself from being electrocuted)
