Yellow halo on SXRD screen after the first year?

I have had a Sony KDSXBR1 50 inch SXRD since 4/06. NO problems and it's been great until just recently. A yellowish circle sort of like a halo has appeared on the right upper part of the screen. It is there on all programming such as DVDs and cable channels. The haze is most visible on scenes with a light background. Not very apparent with dark backgrounds. The picture clarity and color is normal (still great!). Is this due to cigarette smoke and internal hazing on the screen? Is it a bulb problem? What to do? Can I clean the interior myself? If so, are there any precautions to take. I have an extended warranty for the bulb but I doubt it covers cleaning.
thanks in advance
Mike

I hate to tell you thats it's more then a good cleaning that your set needs....It sounds like the OB is going bad...like many of the XBR1's...( Your far from alone ) Give Sony a call...They will take care of you at no charge...They have extented the warrinty till October of 2008 on the OB's in the XBR1's...Sony knows they are having problems...

Good luck :hithere:

Here's your needed info:

I join Tweaver in wishing you good luck with the repair. You'll need it. It is a major repair that needs to be done by a careful and thorough technician who knows what he's doing (apparently some don't).

Even then, more than one person has reported that the set was unsatisfactory in other ways after the repair or that the same condition or another version of the condition returned later.

Still, the extended warranty from Sony will save you a huge amount of money.

Hope all goes well for you. :)

I will get the set serviced and report back with the outcome.
