Recently purchased Sony Bravia 39" HDTV, and Samsung DVD/VHS recorder/player. Picked up HDTV cable box at Charter along with 5 conductor cable, color coded with RCA plugs. I hooked this cable up to the proper color coded jacks on the cable box and TV. I also have a HDMI cable installed. Between the DVD recorder/ player (audio and video output jacks) and the TV's audio/video input jacks, i have a three conductor A/V cable. With this set up the TV worked fine and we could play pre recorded DVD's, however, we could not record DVD's. We called Charter and were told we needed we needed another 3 conductor cable from the A/V input jacks on the recorder to the A/V output jacks on the TV. In order to do this, I had to put 'Y' connectors on the audio output jacks on the TV. NOW THE PROBLEM, THE SCREEN IS NOT FULL PICTURE, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?? Thanks for reading my lengthy description, Clyde

Instead of running cables from the tv out to the dvd/vcr in have you tried running them from the cable box out to the dvd/vcr in? That's what I do. There ought to be an unused set of composite outputs on the cable box.

rwdavis2,

Does your hookup eliminate the bars and allow DVD recording?
