Pricey Cables Worth It?

I was in Circuit City today and was looking around at the HDMI cables and they're really pricey. I was wondering if paying for an expensive cable like the Monsters is worth it. I've seen some really cheap cables online. Is there really a difference?

Not an expert At all, but from What I've read here. (A lot) no.

Signal is Like when you plug Cord to your PC screen. It either works or it doesn't. If the signal goes through it's same as any other cable.

and Monster Cables are a complete lie, even a CC rep admitted they are grossly overpriced.

Hope that helps. But search the forum. This may have been answered already

I agree. all cables from monoprice.com super cheap and very good quality. Even their cheapest models seem very well shielded and you can notice no difference period. I will never buy a expensive cable again. Of course this is my opinion but expensive cables are the biggest waste of money in electronics. I feel very strongly about this as you can tell but do a search in this forum and you will see most people agree with me.

The only time it could make a difference is if you are going to make a long run - 30 feet or more.

If 6 feet or less - no difference whatsoever.

Expensive cables are a waste of money. All you're paying for is a recognized name. Well I guess expensive cables do usually look nicer, but they don't really DO anything better. If you want affordable good looking cables, check out TendonUSA's website

Nope! They are a waste of money. All HDMI cables have the same manufacturing requirements set by HDMI.org. They (HDMI certified) are basically the same thing, some just pricing in excess overhead. They all produce a digital signal....Digital is Digital.

Circuit City is not the place to decide on any quality of cable. This forum is also loaded with the people with lack of experience and understanding of audio and video engineering. Cable can make a difference but go to a video dealer that has better equipment then Circuit City.

Well, I have to say...and this is rather unpopular...When it came to RF cables and component cables...I do like Monster more than some of the lesser priced cables (like the AR component cables I had for a while). But audio cables seem to be less of a big deal to me. And the differences between brands of HDMI are probably nil. I definitely wouldn't bother buying Monster HDMI cables. I just got something called Rocketfish which were less expensive (still a bit pricey) for 8 feet of HDMI and optical digital cable. Seem to be well-built and work quite nicely so far.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I ended up going with the Tendon HDMI cables that Rocketman suggested. They arrived really quick and have worked great so far. Thanks again everyone.

I have a Rocketfish subwoofer cable that I am pleased with. Seems just as well made as Monster. Good stuff.
