center speaker stopped working.

I've got a sony receiver and I just noticed tonight that the center channel wasnt showing on the display, sure enough, no sound.

Swapped the center with one of the rears and still nothing from the center but the speaker that had been center and now was one of the rears worked fine.

Tried changing the wire (twice) and still nothing.

Any ideas what else it could be (or is the receiver screwed)

SONY A/V receiver are very poor quality, only their ES line is worth buying, i had bad experience with sony reciever, it died after immediately after two year warranty, i bought Yamaha after it still works good i just upgraded with another Yamaha.

Check the receiver setup menu to see if the center channel was turn off accidentally.

Since you tried the wires twice at both terminations (speaker and receiver posts), is sounds like the channel could have been turned off.

If this doesn't work, check the volume of the center channel and make sure it wasn't turned all the way down.

If this doesn't work, you can always do a hard reset of the receiver, but your will loose all your settings. Check your owners manual to see how to do a hard reset.

If all else fails, get rid of the Sony. I never like their products anyway. Too Mass produced for me.

Good Luck

Sony tends to pound out thier stuff so fast that it makes my head spin, i would dump the sony and check out pioneer or yamaha, Much better products!!
