HDMI. . . is it worth it?

Now that the 360 has HDMI, I was wondering if I am going to notice a difference in PQ (over component) if I went with the HDMI/360 route. Is it worth the money?

The price increase for just HDMI is not worth it to me. But that is me. If you have the HD DVD addon and a 1080p set without a VGA input, you may see a noticable of difference with movies. It is a nice option with the bigger 120 GB HD for first time buyers, but I am not trading in my 360 for that. I am quite fine with VGA (even component) and the 20 gb. I connect it to my MC PC for music and movie downloads, so I still have plenty of space left. :yippee:

My thoughts exactly. I may try to pick up a VGA cord for the 360 just to free up one of my component inputs. Does Monoprice or any other sites sell those or am I stuck using M$?

I got the Joytech VGA cable from Walmart for $19.99 and it included an optical audio cable as well. Here it is and a couple other cheaper options.:yippee:

From a gaming perspective, which this is a gaming thread, I don't think there is a need CURRENTLY. As a PS3 person, HDMI is useful for bluray only, and that is for only certain titles, like none of the Warner DVDS I have are encoded with PCM. I have five games, and none of them have pcm tracks, so the HDMI is moot in this regard. It will be interesting a year from now how prevelant 1.3 receivers and displays become.

Major Nelson released a mid-week show today and he had one of the Elite team members on who stated even he could not tell the difference between the component and the HDMI.

Simple answer..

Its worth it if you are buying new and like the black look of the console. And I think its more worth it for the 120GB drive than HDMI.

If you already own a 360, its a total waste and not needed.

there is no pq difference between hdmi and component with a properly calibrated set. think of it like optic v.s. digital coax. one is analog the other is digital but the results are the same when set up porperly.

I have XBOX 360 hooked up with component cables and PS3 hooked up with HDMI...NO DIFFERENCE. (my tests were done with Tiger Woods golf and John Madden Football)

Buy I should add that there is a HUGE difference in PQ for HD TV.

Lastly, for what it is worth, I took back the $129.00 HDMI cable after comparing it to the HDMI cable that comes free from Directv b/c there is NO DIFFERENCE in PQ...all 1's and 0's
