Are all the movies available to rent also available for purchase? Also, what is the pricing on rentals and purchases? or does it differ from movie to movie? Thanks.

No, but you own all tv shows downloaded (as long as they remain on your hd). 4 for sd, 6 for hd

It will differ from movie-to-movie. Like,The Departed just became available and the SD version is 320 MS points while the HD version is 480 MS points. Now an older flick like The Fugitive is 240 MS points for the SD and for the HD its 360 points. Now in real dollars that number could vary depending on your method of purchase of points and the amount of points you purchase at one time....but in general, like in a store you can buy 1600 points for 20 bucks. So with that you can figure about 1.25 per 100 points...so a new release in HD would cost you about 6 bucks..which is obviously a bit high for not getting to keep the movie. On the contrary though for SD flicks, older ones you might just wanna watch one night arent bad for the 240 points or about 3 bucks. IMO the downside is obviously not getting to keep the flick, even if just for a set amount of days. Upside though, I dont have to leave the house to get it,its not a subscription service like a Netlix or anything and it is getting some HD content into homes that DO have a HDTV but DONT have any type of HiDef disc player.

So you can't purchase movies to own yet? Just TV shows? It said in the Xbox.com FAQ that you could actually buy movies. Thanks for the info, guys.

I think this is more of a copyright/DRM thing more than Microsoft trying to rip you off. The movie industry is really uptight about shit like that.

Beez is completely correct. We aren't trying to rip people off.

We have agreements with studios and it's all about Digitial Rights Management. Every device has some form of it. (e.g Universal says to Microsoft XBL, want to host our content? Sure, but you have to have to put these restrictions on distribution in your XBL code).

Nah no buying movies yet...well actually based on eigers assesment IDK if buying will be an option or not. I would imagine that the prices would be kinda close to actually buying the DVD of any format but IDK if I would really wanna buy actual movies on there. I mean the HD space isnt to big a deal and with the bigger HD coming it could be no problem but I just would rather have the actual HD disc of a movie. I actually prefer the rental aspect although I'd like to see a more "netflixish" kinda setup....something prepaid and able to rent X amount of movies at a time and when I delete one I can rent another...
