Alright i just got a ps3 so i went to download some bluray clips and movie trailers in 1080p. They looked like crap compared to movie trailers you can download off xbox live in HD. Anyone else notice this?

If you are not using PS3 and the 360 on the same tv it could be as simple as the difference in the TV, alternatively it could also be that the BluRay trailers are in Mpeg2 whereas most HD DVD trailers are I think in VC1 which is a better high definition codec.

It is possibly just that the XBox trailers are in the superior codec or maybe the PS3 is set up incorrectly for video as although I`m a fan of the 360 there shouldn`t be a big difference in trailers.

I am using both systems on a 1080p mitsubishi dlp, the ps3 movie trailers are in mp4 format at 1080p. Xbox 360 movie trailers look better, i compared the movie trailer for 300 on both.

what trailer clips did you download? as HD-DVD, not all blu-ray movies look superior. movies like House of Flying Daggers were very very poor translated-to-bluray movie so i wouldnt bother with that clip. it could be something in the PS3 settings too who knows. I personally find all the trailers look amazing(768p display). click looks really nice and i love the movie Silent Hill. check out the movie trailers too. .. you using HDMI or component as a connection? is your TV calibrate for that input? if your using component for the 360 and using HDMI for the PS3 it could very well possibly that your HDMI input is not properly calibrated.

Or.. Gasp! It could be possible that the movies from 360 marketplace look better to him than the ones from PS store.. what a concept.

thats another possibility yes. it could very well be that the trailers on market place are slightly better looking then the "blu-ray disc trailers" on the PS store. .. are those HD-DVD trailers that he is mentioning on the 360 or general trailers? if its general trailers he should certainly look at more then just the "blu-ray trailers" on the PS store.

Both look good IMO, but the PS3 downloads look better and sound better than the 360 downloads.

These are the exact questions you have to answer when dealing with the PS3 and its HD interface. It must be the transfer or does your HDTV have a scaler, or is your set calibrated for the PS3?, vice-versa? What a headache...Thanks for pointing these out EddieDZ.

And eck...you a fool boy! lol!

I said i compared the movie 300 on both and it looked better on the 360. Also check out the new harry potter movie trailer on the ps3, look how much noise you get in the picture, its rediculous.

I wonder what PS3 version your comparing because my downloads, especially 300 looks way better in 1080p from my HP DLP! You must not have some calibrated right either from the PS3 or you Mitsu!

Exactly, I mean look. If I put two pieces of equipment on my tv both hooked up the same and play the same stuff on both of them, How the hell can it be my TV that's not calibrated correctly. Does it really pain some of you people that much to see someone post an OPINION they have about PQ or SQ or gameplay or whatever that doesn't agree w/ yours?!?! It's like everytime someone does that there's a freakin buttload of excuses and workarounds and who's right and you're wrong and the almighty, You're TV must suck.. WTF ?!
Who cares.. this gets on my nerves to no end.. And yea I know, I can just "not click on the thread" and yeah I know I don't need to reply to it either, but sometimes I just get an itch.. Thanks for listening :)

All inputs and devices need to be calibrated individually.

LOL yeah, but if I hook up a PS3 and a 360 to the same set component ports (at seperate times obviously, cuz I know you would point that out) Maybe the colors may look a little different, due to the hardware on THAT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT, but it wouldn't cause THE TELEVISION to make one look shoddy compared to the other. It would obviously be the format or the hardware, or possibly the eye of the beholder. I am not getting into a pissing contest about this. Last post in this thread.

I didn`t say it would, I just thought the ps3 likely was not calibrated to its optimum

Actually I prefer the 360 so by saying you thought the movie trailers looked better on it you wouldn`t be disagreeing with me :D

I think most people would suggest simply that perhaps the PS3 has some settings which could be altered to fine tune its video playback but when all is said and done it may even just be that the XBox trailers have higher bitrates and thus more quality

conclusion: To each there own. what might taste like apples to one person might taste like oranges to someone else. now to answer your first question... No, To me all the PS3 videos on the PS Store look breath taking(except maybe for House of flying daggers, that one looks more like DVD quality). I have zero complaints. I think anything in HD looks great., So no i havent notice PS Store videos looking bad.

i did and still have the 300 trailer on my PS3 and though i think it looks great, there is a overlayer of graininess that is done on purpose. its the way the film is.

Mummy, I was actually responding to GLOW.
And I'm not taking sides, it doesn't matter to me, I'm just saying if the OP thinks one set of vids looks better than others that's fine, it's his opinion to his eyes, that's all.

If it helps, when I first d/l the Click trailer from the PS Store I saw a ton of noise especially in the black areas. But when I played the Blu Ray of Click it looked great!

This is what i'm talking about. There is a ton of noise in the black areas on most of the trailers. Atleast its just the ps3 store content and not the actual bluray movie.:)

damn thats so odd!. i still have the Click blu-ray trailer on my PS3 HDD(DLed it on day one) and i notice absolutely no noise/graininess in black ares on my TV... hhmmmmmm.. very odd indeed... oh well.. it could possibly well be that most of the videos on the store have been compressed more. the file sizes are pretty low for being HD too i find.
