Anyone give this demo a shot yet? I heard it's up on XBL today. Just curious to hear how it stands up since everyone is really hoping it's leaps and bounds better than last year.

Ok Joba, I was dling some stuff last night and he was on there all day it looked like.. I dunno what happens, cuz there was a deadline to complete your series by the 22nd, but I haven't checked to see if it just hands me the trophy or what.

I haven't bought a baseball game in a LONG time, last one I had was for N64 and don't remember the title, before that it was Ken Griffey Jr. and that game was awesome. What was that baseball game where everyone was fat and had real round heads and basically all players looked the same? And then before that it was Baseball Stars, and I thnk there was a game for NES just called baseball that had some real teams and players on it. Anyway, I'm rambling.. I'll stop now.

I bought a new wireless router and was having trouble setting up the damn thing all weekend. I wasn't able to get on until sunday afternoon and I wasn't connected to live b/c of a router issue. I was on last night playing Crackdown (9:30pm est)..I didn't see him online. The new router is fast as hell...hopefully it will improve my jumpshooting!

Baseball Stars was the bomb! I can't remember the baseball game where the players looked the same.

And don't crown yourself just yet!

I was thinking bases loaded, but just did a search and the game I was thinking of is almost certainly RBI Baseball.. I'm almost 100 percent sure of it.

i wonder if they have a online league. i want to pick up this game tomorrow but i dont think i have the cash for it right now. might have to wait a few weeks. atleast there is a demo to keep me somewhat happy till i get the real thing.

What would a sports title be in this day and age w/out an online league/tourney system?? Especially since it's made by 2k, I'm going to guess that it's a YES! but.. I have no proof lol, so it's just a guess :)

first thing i noticed was how it looked more like a mvp game then a 2k sports game (in a very good way). from the graphics to some of the presentation like when you hit a home run.

i just got done playing it. they give you the cards v.s. mets and it starts in the 7th inning. this is clearly a better looking game then last years (big time). it seems to be a big improvment but there isnt enough of a demo to be sure. the fielding seems improved and i like how they show the runner with a faded look instead of the boxes.

if you wished last years game looked good then you will love this seasons looks. they even over hauled the cut scenes of people getting food and drinks or security just standing around. so from what i can tell its a big improvment from what was already there.

Agreed. Certainly has a MVP vibe going on and yes in a good way. First the bad...infield screamers are still nearly impossible to field on your own,the camera sequence just doesnt allow enough time to switch player and make catch, leaving you to rely on the CPU to make the stop, although so far from what Ive seen, the cpu does a helluva lot better than it did last year. Outfielding is much tighter than last year while a new "ball tracking" visual is implemented and a bit confusing the forst few times you see it,then it makes sense and play well. Now for the good....the graphics are insane as bb noted. looks amazing from actual gameplay to fan interaction to replays, which are sweeter than any before it. Post bat highlights are very cool and even done with stat visuals overlaid on the screen sometimes, also very cool. Animations of the players on baserunnig is smooth and abserunnig itself seems vastly improved, again kinda MVP like.Throws off the back foot, guys leaning off the bag to make the catch to trainwreck collisions at the plate...Im in baseball heaven..well Im atleast at the gates, perehpas next year the gates will open, after all...2k usually does try to make the game better every year unlike some other dev:::cough:EA:::cough Like bb said, with only 3 innigs to play its hard to get a sense of how the stamina works and all but Ive played about 5 games so far and I keep seeing new animations and I must say,IMO its very good from what Ive seen

i like how when you hit a homerun it will show the replay but freeze the swing and show some stats. if you look at the design of the boarder of the stats you will see its a ea box art rip off. i wasnt sure if i had enough cash to spend on this game but its looks like i may have to go hungry for a few days to make sure i get it sooner. j/k.

My horrible experience with 2K6 baseball has soured me on the 2K baseball series, which has me wishing EA still had their MVP franchise. I thought that this game wasn't coming out till March 8th. Either way, i'm going to wait till I read several good reviews before committing myself to this game. I need a baseball game in my lineup, but not if it's just as bad as 2k6 was.

Im still kinda open bro...only good thing is the longer I wait, the more the budget increases so thats kinda been motivation to hold off. Plus 42" is probably my limit for size in the living room, when I had the Philips it was way TOO big for the living room so I moved to the basement and that in turn forced to rehab the basement...all in all it became a PITA. Damn Im stuck at work so Im unable to go grab 2k7 till after work and even then I have to go home and grab my BB stuff...I have like 50 bucks worth of rewards bucks left and Im trying to use them up before they expire.

i gave in and picked it up today. looks like raman noodles for dinner the next few nights.:(

i wont be able to play till late tonight but i will definetly get in a few games before 3 a.m.:D

godson once you go 1080p you dont have to worry about your tv being over baring for the room. im about 8ft from the screen and mine is 50inches. i would strongly consider either sony lcd (xbr3) or lcos (xbr2 or A2000 if you dont need the features the xbr2 carries). there great tvs and are much improved over previous models build wise.

These Korean raman noodles are definately not for people looking for cheap budget American asian fake noodles. They arn't expensive, but they just arn't cheap either. They have some really good favorites of mine like the Gomtang beef soup flavored ones, or the Shim hot and spicy seafood flavored ones. The Japanese and the Chinese may have invented Raman noodles, but the Korean's do it best IMHO.

Yea a few people have told me that,my bro-in-law has a 50"r in his basement, small like maybe 7 feet max and his looks good, but for my own eyes, just my own personal vision it seems to bother me abit. I figure what I save in the size perhaps can benefit the actual model I do go with. Im gonna check them out though, been playing MLB2K7 all night so maybe tomorrow at work. You got babseball right? 02-28-2007, 09:17 AM
few annoying and funny things i have found,

1. there is a 5'2" 110 lbs prospect on the yankees. thats not annoying but there kinda funny when you consider the pic is of a 10-12 year old boy.

2. once you update your roster and try to bring it into franchise or gm mode it screws up the salaries big time. instead of A rod making 25million he is making 2.5 million. every players salaries change just like that. your payroll goes down big time but when you try to resign players they ask for what they normaly would want. anything more then 2.5 million and there the highest paid player in the league. the worst part is your budget goes way down and you cannot change that.

3. there is already a roster update and i includes a ton of minor leaguers who never made the big leagues. you gotta know you minors because there not named with the right names. to me this option is great but you cant use the update without killing the franchise or gm experience.

i hope they got a patch comming soon. since im finding these little glitches im gonna hold off on a review to see if there are bugs in the actual game.

eck979
02-28-2007, 09:53 AM
Eh.. the minor leaguers names I could deal w/, since I don't really follow baseball at all, it bores me to death. But the whole salary thing would be a kick in the nuts, and baseball would be one of the few games that I would still play a franchise or whatever rather than solely online.. hmmm
Keep it coming.

Changed my mind, Eck...I won't be picking up this game. The demo was so-so. I wanted to be blown away. If 2K were smart, a $20 price drop would be a good incentive to get this title into more hands. I am sure its a fun game, but as a former all-star little-leaguer myself :), the game doesn't quite capture that in-game feel. I am gonna try the demo one more time tonight JIC I was too tired to appreciate it last night.

bboncorr...you dig into these games early, huh? Does the game feel authentic to you?

eck979
02-28-2007, 01:07 PM
LOL I was a little league All Star at one point in my life too!! From what I've read in other places, the disc game is hands down better than the demo, still framerate issues (choppiness) from time to time, but graphically much better. I probably won't get this game anytime soon, if ever. But there's a possibility I could be swayed. I haven't gotten a new game since xmas.

joba78
02-28-2007, 01:24 PM
I just remembered what really annoyed me about the demo...I couldn't move mt batter around in the batter's box!! i felt really constrained when batting. bboncorr, can you confirm if you can do this in the retail copy?

Also, when attempting to make a routine ground out to first, the defensive player kept throwing the ball to home plate. I missed like 4 outs b/c of this. At least I didn't miss any fly balls. And when the CPU was pounding me on offense, my pitcher got shook and kept throwing wild pitches!! I was like WTF!! I took him out and put in someone who wsn't warm and he throws two wild pitches! But that was my fault...should of warmed him up...If that was possible in the demo.

I guess the game isn't as "pick and play" as I would like it to be. (based on the demo) I didnt't want to read all those tips as a seasoned baseball player myself. (All-star every year I played, won two state championships, career batting avg: .678, walk-on in HS after 3+ yrs away from the game - found out quickly that I sucked-)

eck979
02-28-2007, 01:33 PM
I was throwing to the wrong bases as well.. then I learned the 4 face buttons coordinate to the base you throw to, I was just pressing the direction of the base and the A button, which throws to home. Moving in the box doesn't bother me cuz you can aim where you want to hit. I read all the tips and if you don't read the pitching one, you're gonna throw wild pitches, that's what I was doing too, especially when I held the button. THere's more to it than just aimin and hitting the button for the pitch you want.

yes it does. it also has an all star home run derby during the season. the day before the all star game there is a HRD logo which leads me to believe you get to play it during the season. i wonder if winning it effects attributes.

funny part is i have only played 2 games and its amazing. how the hell can these so called reviewers give such a low score. there is just way to much improvments to put into this game to give it such low scores maybe they where reviewing the demo plus the beta version to get it out sooner. when ea asks them to hold back on putting madden and nba live reviews out they have no problem doing it so maybe there just to much ea hommers to realize what a great game this is.

there is some slow down here and there but never when batting or pitching. its more when you get a cutscene type of fielding play but its not enough of a problem to bother worrying about.

my only reserves about this game is editing players screws up the franchise/gm mode salaries and team budget big time. but you can just start either mode and edit your roster as much as you want even create a player. you cant edit other teams players though so since im the sox i can go edit barry bonds (since he is not in the game under his real name due to not belonging to the mlbpa).

load time when starting games is kinda long but there are scenes of fans getting food and walking into the park so it goes by faster if you watch the scenes.

other then that the game is amazing for a baseball game. i cant believe 2k made a game with graphics like these. its also funny how when you go to the 2kforums they are all complaining about how hard this game is. WTF its baseball its supposed to be hard thats why it takes so many games to figure out who is the best that season. i have it on custom/dynamic difficulty and all my sliders moved past legend level so maybe i know some things these other people havnt figured out like dont throw strikes on every pitch.

load time when starting games is kinda long but there are scenes of fans getting food and walking into the park so it goes by faster if you watch the scenes.

other then that the game is amazing for a baseball game. i cant believe 2k made a game with graphics like these. its also funny how when you go to the 2kforums they are all complaining about how hard this game is. WTF its baseball its supposed to be hard thats why it takes so many games to figure out who is the best that season. i have it on custom/dynamic difficulty and all my sliders moved past legend level so maybe i know some things these other people havnt figured out like dont throw strikes on every pitch.
Lol...yea I hear that. Me and my boy been playing and usually since its kinda lighthearted we throw a bunch over the plate, especially early then once the game gets going we usually start throwing some chasers here and there and depending where that goes...but some guys in them lobbies are looking for games with nothing but strikes over the plate...all the time. IDK about that kinda game.

Were you and Godson playing earlier? How was it and what was the score? :)

I have to say that it's extremely challenging. While i'm doing a good job pitching, i'm having trouble batting as I have trouble telling which balls are good pitches to hit, and which are going foul. I have to say to people that you should not base your decision to buy this game on reviews, as its 1000x better than that piece of garbage they released last year called MLB 2K6. The frame rates are much more consistent, and the players look absolutely photorealistic. It's rather stunning to say the least. Best of all, the announcers are no longer annoying like they were last year as they don't say the same thing over and over again. If you see me online, holler as i'll usually be up for a game if i'm not going anywhere. I suck too right now, so we should be pretty evenly matched.

when it comes to batting it takes time and buying the inside edge stuff really helps big time. when i first started playing this game last year it took a few weeks to tell a curve ball from a high fast ball and vise versa. sometimes i still cant tell (actualy most of the time). that is the point of baseball though. you expected to fail and only succeed 30% of the time. even when succeeding 30% your considered one of the best in the league now thats a scary thought and shows how hard baseball realy is. use the batters eye and and if you dont find the pitch then just lay off a few to see if the guy is a high or low ball pitcher. this helps alot since some guys tend to throw high fastballs and others like to throw low ones. once you have figured out whether he throws high or low figuring out other pitches becomes alot easier. hope some of those tips help.

pitching has allways been easy for me since i used to play pitcher so i just take pointers i used in real life and implement them into the game. throw early strikes and get them chasing late in counts and late in games. most player lay off early curve balls and wait for fast balls and its very hard for the game to stay away from high and tight fastballs with 2 strikes.

YES, it was a great game, and the better player won...BUT, I must say, for those of you who know the game...MARIANO RIVERA gave up TWO home run TO LEFTIES!!!!!! BOTH homers on INSIDE cutters to lefties...

LOL, I am not bitter!! ;)

I'm playing as the Reds in franchise mode this year, but I had lots of problems using Mariano Rivera in last year's 2k6. For some reason, the digitilized version of him in the game was totally different from the real person. I guess there is only so much they can do to program the effectiveness of MO's cut fastball, which arguably is the best in the game. It's incredible how that guy can get such late movement on a ball being pitched at that kind of speed, and then to have the control that he does.

I broke down and picked this up Sunday (can't believe they gave me $22 for Madden07)
I love it. My BAs are looking pretty normal, but I strike out A LOT. One thing I noticed is you need to focus on the pitcher pretty much watch his glove and hand till he releases and keep your eye on the ball, that's they only way to get your timing down and to have a chance at seeing where the pitch is going, it's almost like real baseball, give it a try if you haven't been. How's this play online?

bboncorr, I noticed they do have leagues and tourneys :D

Edit to add: just wanted to tell a story about the d-bag that was tending to me at gamestop.. He asks me what kinda games I like I'm like shooters and sports, he's like you preorder halo3, I said nah, I'll just get it sometime after it comes out, then he's like did you preorder Madden 08, I'm like nah, I can always get madden when it comes out by just buying it, besides I wanna see if it's any good cuz this years sucks.. he doesn't agree. But anyway, then he drops this turdbomb on me. He says well you may wanna preorder cuz this is the last year that madden will have real players names and teams?!?! I was like, no it's not. he said yea their license runs out this year and after that they won't be able to use real players and teams anymore. I didn't say anything I just asked if he could check me out..
The shit they'll tell you to get you to preorder something.. damn.

This is also one of the VERY VERY few games that I can be content playing against the computer/singleplayer. Most other games, including sports just seem so scripted/cheap, but this game feels so random/real life. I played 4 games against the AI last night and still didn't wanna go to bed at 1am!

I did so much in just those four games! Got my coach ejected, had a pitcher so nervous I couldn't hit the plate , and had to calm him down, got 3 pitchers ejected for wild pitches that hit the batter, even injured a guy w/ a beanball to the head giving him a concussion. Still haven't been able to climb that back wall, I always just dive at it?? Ugh, now I have to go to Philly for work tomorrow and stay overnight and I'm not gonna be able to play.. That sounds pathetic, but I'm really lovin this right now. I could take a day off and play it all day I think.
hey if you play online, do you get the same views as single player or does it make you play like it does when playing 2 player on same box.. IE: When you are pitching or batting it always shows behind the batter view?

Oh yeah, are you guys using the swingstick or did you change it to classic.. I think using classic would be cheap and take away from the game.

I got an in game tip on how to get a mound visit when my pitcher was really rattled. Something like pause and go into the lineup, highlight the current pitcher hit A then a little options screen comes up and one of them is mound visit. I really wanna jump online w/ this but I'm a little afraid that any tiny bit of lag would kill it. It would be cool cuz the AI rarely throws a bad pitch that gives you the automatic tell of where it's going to be, I'm sure real humans would do this w/ much greater frequency.. I know I do

there have been some reports with the online leagues having troubles maybe we should wait just a little while. atleast by then we would have enough people to join. i have also been talking to a few good gammers over at the 2k forum recently and i invited them to this forum. they seem to know there stuff so i figured they would be a nice addition and more people to fill out a league.

So far the leaugue Ive joined has been a bit troublesome...games drop alot in the middle but 2K has said its been network problems and would be resolved ASAP....well if the interest is there for a league, even a smaller short league just to get a little warmup let me know....I'll set one up. You definately seem to be getting the hang of it. Maybe we'll have to have another online game if we can match up. I have gone through the first 10 games, and I always seem to make late game comebacks against the cpu. One thing that I don't like, is how you can't just save a game in the middle of it if you have to leave. When you paged me for a game the other day, I couldn't leave because it was a very close game that I didn't want to have simulated. I was ahead by only a run, and my "ringer" that I implanted onto the team was doing the pitching. It's kind of funny as my digitalized wishful version of me that I created for MLB doesn't look anything like me.

I've tried looking, but it won't let me save it during a game in franchise mode. Maybe i'm not looking in the right place, but it only lets me simulate the rest of the game. It will allow you to save your settings, but I don't see saving the actual game itself.

Yeah that's exactly what i've noticed. I don't like letting the computer sim the rest of the game for me if it's a close game. I've especially noticed that your star players seem to have a much greater chance of being injured when simming the game.

Kinda on another topic... I used some of those points you get within the game and unlocked the '27 and '61 Yanks. The rosters didn't have real players! Did anyone else notice this? What's the point of playing as those old teams if they don't have actual players on them. I know the Cooperstown teams have real players, but those two other teams I unlocked were all generic names.
