I recently purchased an audio optical cable to use with my PS3. I plugged in the cable into my receiver and my PS3. I have set the PS3's settings to output in audio optical but I can not find the settings on my surround sound system to switch to the optical output. I have an rca rt2390 model and if anyone could help me that would be greatly appreciated.

I have an RCA RT2500 which may be similar to your 2390. On my receiver, I go to the set-up menu and select " Auto Detect" for my digital inputs. In this setup, the receiver automatically detects your digital inputs, whether optical or coaxial. Of course, if you prefer, you can choose the "Manual" setting, and set the digital inputs yourself. The default settings are "Analog", so the receiver will not recognize your digital inputs until you change them in the set-up menu.
