You should be able to connect the SD A/V outputs to your DVD recorder inputs and record in SD. On HQ it does not look all that bad. I don't know why you can't record from your SD DVR, I do it on my SD TiVo and stand alone DVD recorder. What DVD recorder do you have?

There is one thing though. In order to record from a HD receiver it must output 480i. Most HD DVRs will require the output format to be set to 480i in order to get the A/V outputs to function. That will set all outputs to 480i, so in order to watch what you are playing back you will possibly need to switch the TV to the DVD recorder input as some HDTVs will not allow 480i on their HD inputs.

That is the way I have it connected, I get a message that it is copyright protected. My dvd recorder is an rca drc 8000. Thanks

Maybe a different DVD recorder would work. What do you use that recorder for?

I have it on my hd without dvr receiver. It records fine hd and sd programs through an s video connection.

There is another thing to consider. See: Transfering Recordings From HD TiVo (http://www.highdefinitionblog.com/?page_id=260)
