Will they ever stop complaining?

For a long time the complaint has been lack of HD content on D*. Now that D* has announced MANY new HD channels are coming this year, now I see eveyone complaining about possible hikes in HD prices. Are these people every going to be happy? Do you think D* doesn't pay anything to launch these satellites and maintain them? You should be jumping up and down praising them for finally taking giant steps in providing HD programming. NOT!! The whining continues as always. If you don't like D* move on to something else and stop whining. Why not post positive versus negative all the time here? Pretty pathetic in my opinion.

Here is my take as a consumer and not one who deals with the business model of providing content....

HD is not really revolutionary, but an evolutionary step in video standards. Since technology prices come down all the time, I expect HD to simply become the expected standard of broadcast quality and I expect to not pay a premium for that level of quality. I pay for HBO, not HBO-HD. I expect HBO to be in HD or I won't watch it. So that's my expectations if a channel wants to compete for my viewership.

I'll give D* additional money to cover the infrastructure costs required for the additional bandwidth, but I won't give money to content providers who suddenly want more money just because they are in HD. If they weren't a premium channel before, they aren't one now.

If you subscribe to the premium movie channels, I'm sure you will get them in HD for free as you do now for HBO and Showtime. As for the other channels, time will tell. I'm sure there will be different prices for different levels of service. As with the NFL Sunday Ticket selling HD content through their Superfan package, I'm sure you will see the same for MLB EI, NHL CI, etc. I personally would pay a "little" extra to view the games in HD. It's hard to watch games in SD after you have seen them in HD. We will see alot of changes at D* this year and hopefully it will have a positive effect on the consumer. If they provide the national HD channels they are saying they will along with HD subscriptions for sports, I can see a major increase in subscribers. Dish and the Cable companies will be unable to compete and will lose MANY subs to D*. Stay tuned, should be an interesting year for the HD market.

To answer you question NO, However that is why we can shop around Those that can get HD through cable may look at the line up they offer and price and Drop D* and move on. Seeing how D* may or may not offer these channels by the end of 07 means for me I will out of my two year commit. So I will begin to shop when they post a firm price and package so I can compare it to the other vendors.

I agree with you. Some people just have nothing better to do than be miserable.

I am not sure that you can do much complaining about price hikes, when no one really knows what they are yet. I realize that D* has to pay their suppliers for HD and I should not expect it to be given to me for free. I am very willing to accept a reasonable increase in price for additional HD channels. I would just like to have that option available to me. If nothing changes soon after the launch of the next D* satellite (APR?) , then I think there should be a lot of complaining.

PS. I love my HR20 too AND I have always gotten great installation support. My previous cable provider was light years behind Directv in capability and service.

Why not post positive versus negative all the time here?

I think the amount of negatives shows that D* has quite a good bit of problems.

BTW, I like D* and am very happy with what I have.....but most of the complaints dealing with being told something not true, crappy customer service, terrible DVR machines (for some at least whom replace it 3-4 times in a month span...ouch)....the complaints are very justified.

Doesn't appear to me this forum has any more whiners than other consumer electronics forums. I do notice there are a *lot* of seemingly very thin-skinned posters... those that become real aggressive real fast or those who deride and berate people who ask simple questions. Part of the culture I guess. Still, lots of good helpful infomation here for a HD newbie like myself.
