This has been discussed ad nauseum on this forum and at the company water cooler. But, I'll be nice and give you very brief summary of my experiences:

LCD

Bright, lively, "snappy"
Minimal glare issues if any at all
No burn in problems
Generall pack more pixels per screen inch than plasmas.

Plasma

Awesome black levels
Potentially slightly better color reproduction than LCD
Great for Movies or a dedicated theatre room

Both technologies are at their best right now, IMO. I like LCD better but thats just me. Buy what looks best to you and dont let anyone feed you a bunch of mumbo-jumbo BS trying to sell you one or the other. Buy what you LIKE and dont look back!

Yeah...what he said. I have two LCD's and just got a new Plasma. Simplistically stated, I think Football games look better on the LCD's but Movies and HD Discovery channel look better on Plasma.

Yes. Last year I thought LCD didn't look as good. But I just looked yesterday and LCD has arrived! So I think the main thing is decide if the glare issue is important to you, and then I think the main thing to look for is image processing (which is hard to quantify) and features such as inputs, PIP, swivel stand etc etc.

I also find it hard to beat Plasmas due to the viewing angles, and the fact that the image will not wash out at ANY angle, and even the high end LCD's will wash-out at certain angles. Simply put, Plasmas have the most consistent pictures from any distance and from any angle. The image that you see is what you get.

Now, plasmas are not as bright, but for me, having a consistent picture offsets that nicely. Also, when comparing SD images to LCD's, there is little comparison. Plasma ALWAYS displays better SD images IMO.

i'm on the fence between the 2 also. i was at the store comparing today and plasma is deeper and richer, it was also far superior at handling SD sources than the Sharp Aqous 52" i was looking at.

And that's another knock on LCD's, they just don't impress with SD. Some do farly well, but Plasma's overall give you the best SD signal, even with Coax connections.

I think everyone is on target here. LCD is brighter with no burn-in concerns at all, but plasma has better viewing angles and better blacks and colors. LCD is the only way to go if you go smaller than 37", and plasma is cheaper in the bigger sizes. I've seen more dead pixels on LCDs than on plasmas, but that's certainly not a scientific observation.

Tell us more about your room size, room arrangement, lighting situation, viewing distance, and what you like to watch, and you'll get better advice.

the biggest factor between LCD and plasmas is room light, if you room is bright do not buy plasma. viewing angle are very good on SAMMY, SONY, SHARP (new 1080P sets) LG,Panasonic, Mitsubishi. Tier two brand will say higher viewing angles but color washed out at those angles.
