Optical Cable hookup question:

I have a digital cable box with an optical output connection, a Hitachi HDTV with a optical output connection and a DVD player with one as well. My Reciever only has one optical cable output as well. The cablebox and TV both have HDMI connections available. My question is What do I need to connect to what to have the best sound? Will just the cablebox to receiver work best?

Thanks - Jay

So, where are your inputs? Are you planning on routing all audio thru your receiver?

Thanks...I appreciate the link. My question is though do I hook up the cablebox to to the TV using HDMI and then use the optical cable from the TV to the reciever?

Thanks - J

Why not bypass the TV audio and send all audio to your receiver? You can configure your STB to send video via HDMI and audio via digital audio out (optical or coax). Plug the HDMI into your TV and the audio into your receiver.
