DTS through PCM?

Does a DVD player have to have DTS capability or will the PCM toslink allow my receiver to decode any disc with DTS encoding?

A DVD player MUST recognize and be able to pass the DTS bitstream through to the receiver to hear it. If your current/future DVD player has a DTS "out" logo on it, you should be all set to send the raw (undecoded bitstream) to the receiver to decode via the optical or digital coax inputs/outputs.

If your DVD player has a DTS 'Surround" logo on it, then it has the DTS decoder in the player and you can send the decoded DTS PCM signal through the analog outputs from the back of the DVD player to the receiver's analog 5.1 inputs to let the DVD player do the decoding. Or you can use the digital coax/optical outputs from the DVD player to send the rax (undecoded bitstream) for the receiver.

Hope this helps!
