to get the programming discounted or lowered. I am now paying 187 a month for my programming I have the best package you can get. I have many Set top boxes on that account as well but I would like a better price I can go to local cable company and get cable tv, hd, DVR boxes, internet and telephone service all for less then what Im paying now.
any ideas??? I dont knwo what D* will do or has done so anything you all can do to help and advise I would appreciate it.

I have been with D* since before 2000 and have always paid on time and never strayed. I love the service and quality but in todays times I need to look to cheapen things up. plus with gas prices holly hell batman.
thanks ahead of time folks.

If you can get it to go down, You might try downsizing your account:)

ok folks. got it down. talked with them and got the plan down to 110 a month this includes playboy TV, total choice premier, 9 set top boxes, HD for free, total protection plan for 2$ a month, and they are replaceing 2 of my older ultimate TV boxes with the d* sending me a new TIVO HD DVR and NFL sunday ticket free. so I will now have 2 HD TIVO boxs, 4 Tivo boxes, 2 d* DVRs, and 1 H20 HD box,

think I worked a good deal out. and got what I Wanted.

ok heres what I Said, Called in and spoke with an amazingly nice female.
told her I was wanting to cancel and she asked me why. when I told her it was to go to a local cable company so I Could get better channel selection more HD, better newer equipment, and a lower price. she then said let me see what I can do.
she was gone 15 mins or so and came back and said I can lower your rate and give you these discounts, then I said ok but what about the HD and hd equipment. she said oh hold on. came back 15 mins later again and said she would be able to get me a new HD dvr for free plus 21 to ship it. an extra h15 DVR, and installation for each one. also put up a new satalite on my roof. so all is scheduled and ready. I asked her about the mepg 4 HD DVR and she said it is not out yet. the info she had stated no definitive dates but to expect sometime early fall. I dont want to get into the debate here Im just relaying info I was given. she stated that the release she has states there will be a upgrade program for these new DVRs and will be for shipping cost only she said she made notation in the account that I was upset about the delays and I was supposed to get the lowest possible cost on the new units.

2 things to remember when calling the retention dept. they do nto have a direct number so simply say you want to cancel you will be put to them and they will work with you.

1 be nice helpfull and curtious. always be nice. this goes a long way. explain youve been hung up on a couple times and hope your not being ignorant or rude.

2 be strong dont take the first offer. she actually came back a few more times then Ive mentioned here. each time with a lower price on the HD DVR. its hard to get them lower or free but if your persistant and pushy but nice you will get it.

Ive learned to deal with retentions depts when I need somethign I did this with sprint cell service and local phone and am now saving over 200 a month in bills over what I Was paying before I started dealing with retention 2 weeks ago. Im not saying screw the company but Im saying make them appreciate you as a customer.

throwback559. retention dept is who you speak to when you want to quit. they do what they need to in order to keep you as a customer. in todays market all companys have them so they can persuade people from quitting.

The phone line needs to be plugged in during the initial set up only.

Well done Remlle, but you surely have quite a few receivers. I went from 6 to 3 and saved a little, but the issue was more about not being able to watch all the sets in the house.

ok, so let me get this straight.

the HD DVR will work without phone line,,,,correct?

so the DVR function doesnt need a phone line to get updates etc etc. or for the tivo aspect to work?

I am trying to order this unit asap and if no phone line is needed in order for the DVR to work properly, then I am going to order it.

keep in mind , this will cost me lots of money and lock me into a 2 yr deal, so i dont want to get it if I wont be able to record all my OTA HD shows.

Thanks

I emailed them and just stated that my bill was to high; I wanted someone to look into it and contact ASAP; when they called 48 hrs later. I told them that I had Comcast/Adelphia ; Verzion; Dish; Cox all offering the same services for 25 dollar less a month. The rep stated that with all the channels I have the pricing was competive with other carriers, then she put me on hold and came back and offered 15 dollars off the bill for the next 12 months. I ask her if there going to be any rate hikes in the next 12 months and she did not have that information, I stated that would be great but I'm still not happy with the pricing of there service. then I rec'd another call from DTV and i told the rep about the pricing issue she put me on hold and came back with one time credit of 50 dollars on themy bill, I stated that would be great also. then the next day I got another call (3) and tild the rep the exactly issue and she put me on hold and came back and gave me ont time credit of 100 dollars on my next bill. In the next 6 months I going to call again tell them I having problems with pricing and I going to leave unless something done to get these prices down about 25 to 30 dollars a month.

ou may need a phone line during the org setup, but after that you should not need one; I have not had my hook to a phone for the last 735 days; the unit gets it updates from the sat dish and not the phone line. They really want the phone for ppv payment downloading. Peace-Out
