H20 vs. H10

07-29-2006, 11:48 AM
I have 3 H10's, purchased and owned over 12 months ago with 3 LNB dish. One H10 is now dead. DTV wont swap/fix H10.

DTV offering me a deal. 3 new H20's, new 5 LNB dish, installed all for free. Nada nothing. BUT 2 year commitment. I keep all H10's, 2 work great and can sell if I please. I know it's now a lease but its free so why should I care? Then they have to replace in future.

What I like about H10's is that I don't have to subscribe to locals and use it as OTA HD receiver with rooftop antenna.

-Can anyone tell me if H20 will perform as local OTA HD receiver without subbing to locals? (I.e. Channels 2-1, 5-1 etc OTA).

-I see heat and reset problems with H20's. Very common or just a few?

-Why shouldn't I go with this deal besides 2 year agreement? Has anyone done this with only 1 year?

Thanks in advance.

I own 2 H20-600s, and I don't notice many problems related to the heat. I use my H10 HD-Tivo for most of my viewing, so maybe that is why.

You can get OTA HD with the H20 (that's what I did before the locals were available via the AT9).

Solid units, don't have much to say about them really. Love the RF capabilities of the remote.

Deal sounds good if you plan on staying with DirecTV.
