Folks,

Newbie to this forum, but I have researching the Sony Grand Wega 3LCD for some time now, I saw that Sony is shipping a new model KDFKDF-50E2000 in 50 and 55 inch styles. How different are these models from KDF-E42A10 and KDS-R50XBR1. The MSRP seems competitive.

Thanks
:)

The 50E2000 is the new 2006 replacement model for the E50A10, same series as the E42A10 (which is being replaced by a 46" E2000). I'm not up on the differences between them. See if a visit to the Sony website can help clarify that:
http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_BrowseCatalog-Start;sid=D8u2Z1E3UdK2rBWGIna8bB45-XvJfQrSWt4=?CategoryName=tv_ProjectionTVs&Dept=tvvideo

The E series and the old A series are both LCD microdisplay sets. While they are HD sets, their native resolution is 720p.

The XBR1 series is a whole different animal. They are Sony's SXRD version of LCoS technology. Many people, including me, feel that LCoS provides a superior picture to LCD in rear projection sets. Also, the XBR's are 1080p native resolution. This added resolution really begins to show up when you get into 60" and larger screens. Many say they can also see the difference in the 50" size as well.

Be aware that the XBR1's have been discontinued (though still available), so the MSRP's have been reduced accordingly. They will be replaced soon by the KDS-R60XBR2 60" and the KDS-R70XBR2 70" SXRD sets. No 50" XBR2 will be available.

There will also be a new A2000 series of Sony SXRD sets, priced higher than the E series LCD's and below the XBR2's. The 60" model in this series is expected to hit the stores around July 17, although there is some talk now that it may be up to a few weeks later than that. This will be followed by 50" and 55" A2000's. The A series is also 1080p and will have many of the features and tech. - but not all - of the XBR2's.

Based on your comments it sounds like you would hold off on the E2000 and wait for the new A series. Would like another opinion as I am thinking about getting the E2000 55"

If you don't mind waiting a bit longer and you can afford the higher price of the A series, I would definitely wait until you have the opportunity to compare it to the E series side-by-side to see if the improvement in picture quality at 55" is significant enough for you to pay the higher price. You should compare the 55" A, not the 60"A which Sony has begun shipping, to the 55" E though, so you'll probably have to wait a little longer beyond the intro of the 60" A. Sony is saying mid-August for the 55"A, but there's a chance it could be sooner too.

Since the E series is also new, you will be in no danger of losing the opportunity to buy one, if you decide the A is not worth the extra money to your eyes. In the chaotic world of HDTV model introductions, the longer you wait to buy, the lower the price goes, nearly always.

Okay- thanks for your opinion. BB has already brought it down 10% on line since introducing last week, so it is making it harder to wait, especially after all this research- I think I am going to pull the trigger

I just bought a KDL-55S2000 last night...it's FREAKING awesome! I really don't have much to compare it to since this is my first one.

Is this unit so new it has no customer reviews...I can't find any anywhere...I guess someone has to be first.

Anyway, the TV is great! no complaints so far.

are you talking about the KDL-55S2000 or the KDF-50E2000. I can't find any reviews on the 55s2000 either...maybe it's too new.

No problem, with all the different models coming out, I wouldn't be surprised. I am just glad you are enjoying it. Excited about getting mine tonight.

The E2000 sets are great TV's, while they may expeience slight SDE, its hardly noticable but to those with the most trained eyes.

I love the E2000 and think its a great alternative to DLP's.

Picked up my 55"E2000 and love it. Hooked it up with an inexpensive HDMI cable and have a crystal clear picture. Highly recommend

Hrm...BB has the 50" E2000 for 1799, no interest for 18 months. Curse my indecisive mind. If I don't plan to buy HD-DVD for a few years and cable won't have it...is there really any reason to hold out for SXRD and the accompanying 1080p display?

No reason that I could find
