well, if ur looking for a TRUE HD DVD player , any of the toshibas are the way to go, however RCA makes one also, it looks like a toshiba knock off though. However, if ur looking for just an upconverter dvd player to upconvert SD DVD to near HD quality, than check out oppo. They make two great upconverts, one that uses a DCDi by Faroudja chip, which is really good for the price. I had the oppo and now got the toshiba xa1 and i like the toshiba as an upconvert alot better. alittle slower, but u get used to it.

Unless you have to have HD-DVD or BluRay I would wait. One of the formats is going to win and if you choose wrong, you will have a discontinued format player. Besides the titles are few and expensive as well as teh players being very expensive. Regular DVD is good enough for right now. I would recommend a good regular DVD player. Oppo has a new model DV-970HD and I hear it is quite nice. Upconversion is mostly BS anyway. make sure you get one with at least a 12bit 108MHz DAC as they have better PQ. The model I have has very good PQ. The Oppos have more functionality as far as DIVX and such. You can go wrong with either model. The HDMI interface is really nice for cable management.
