I am looking into tv's and I am very interested in the Samsung HL-R5078(50 inch) for around $1850. Can someone tell me if this is a good tv, how good is the picture and is it worth the money? I wanted to wait for a 1080p tv but that seems to far away before they become the norm for hd, and I really want to upgrade to a hdtv soon. Some reviews would be very helpful.
Thanks.

the hlr is last seasons model, you can get the new hls at bestbuy for $1799.99. The Hlr was usually pretty solid, but it was dim. The new HLS is great, the bulb burns brighter.

Great tvs. The HL-R5078 is a 1080p display. Main difference between hl-r and this years hl-s xx87 is the 1080p inputs. Last years have no 1080p inputs. If you are into computer gaming or plan on getting a ps3 or bluray hd dvd player you'd be better off shelling out the extra $300-600 to get this years' model which has 2 1080p inputs via hdmi. If you plan on just using the tv as a tv vs. a 1080p video arcade then last years 50 incher is a great deal in my opinion. You'll still be able to connect last years set to a computer but only from the computer can 1080p content be received. You can compare them side by side at most stores. Here are some reviews from owners of last years 50"
